Mastodon has a feature for that! Filters!

Check this out:

  • Navigate to your Settings/Preferences.

  • Click on 'Filters'

  • Create your Filters. The interface allows for so much customization. It's made my experience on Mastodon so much better than those other places. :cat_cute:

  • The coolest part? If you do want to read the filtered post, you still can -- just click 'Show Anyway'!

Cool eh?

Woke up to a request from my long term disability company to fill out an incredibly invasive questionnaire and basically sign over my rights to personal privacy.

Canada needs to look at the overreach of these companies. They prey on the disabled.

I’ve been receiving benefits for 3+ years and I think this is my last straw. I’m not filling that out. I’ll lose half my monthly income.

I guess I’ll need help filling the gaps somehow… ugh.

I'm sharing this because it's crucial for people to understand the harsh realities faced by individuals with disabilities. The process of getting and keeping benefits and achieving stability is incredibly challenging and often stigmatized. Even those of us who have managed to obtain benefits find them woefully insufficient.

Here are some of the questions they asked me to answer to continue receiving the LTD funds I've received for 3.5 YEARS.

  1. Do you travel? Drive? when?
  2. Have you engaged in any volunteering, in person or online?
  3. What does your spouse do for a living?
  4. What are you able to do every day?
  5. What are your activities on your electronic devices?
  6. how much time do you spend on your devices a day?
  7. list social activities you've attended.

COME ON. Yeah, no.

I’m going to say a few things here briefly, and that’s all I’m going to say about all of this:

  1. Being kind is much more difficult than not being kind.
  2. Machiavelli taught us all we need to know about the divide and conquer mentality.
  3. Why be afraid of the very real threat of Big Tech’s ‘Erase, Extend, Extinguish’ mentality if we are just going to do it to ourselves?

The DM that was sent to Admins was not sent kindly. It was low grade bullying. I’ll always stand against that.

The only doctor that treats #POTS in western Canada has declined my referral, which was at the request of a cardiologist I waited to see for 5 months.

I can’t even with this country. I hate this medical system. I hate it. All of it. I’m so tired of having to be my own doctor/case manager. For f*cks sake.

I have a diagnosis, and I’m on a medication for treatment but was told to be followed by a specialist after I moved here 9 months ago.

How is this at all ethical?

I have a life announcement! 📣

I’m going back to University! ( At 37! )

The program is self paced, online and all of my accessibility accommodations have been approved!

I’m excited to be able to take asynchronous courses in a supportive environment.

Day 1 is May 1st!
I’m studying Psychology & Philosophy.

I plan to attend Graduate School afterwards and become a Registered Psychologist in Alberta so I can do Autism assessments (and more), and provide a safe place for #LGBTQIA2S folks. 🏳️‍🌈

I grew up in the 90’s in Georgia… in school they made me wear a fluffy dress for my school photos for grade 1 & 2… well… when I was in grade 3 I said “F this” and wore my soccer uniform instead. ⚽️ 🥅

The smile in that photo vs all the others is a smile I hope to carry for the rest of my life.
