That happened to me last year and my levels have still not stabilized.

I was doing great, my blood sugar levels were good and very stable, then suddenly my pharmacy reported that the medication was over a month back-ordered. Ended up being closer to 4 months before I got my medication again.

I am not exaggerating this:

I created a new hostname in DNS, then added it to my existing webserver config.

It was online for 3 seconds -- 3! -- before getting a 404 request for /.git/config.

If you're relying on obscurity to protect your services, get that right out your fool head today. You have about 3 seconds to get your act together.

nikatjef,
@nikatjef@mastodon.acm.org avatar

@miki @tek
DNS is generally public record as well and unlike TLS, there is actual notifications that generally get sent out when you update your DNS records...

Having said that, most script kiddies are not looking at your certificates or DNS, instead they are targetting general ports and IP address blocks.

nikatjef,

Yes, it is master / slave notification, but with most common cloud DNS providers (the bulk of the internet) they use a broadcast variant as they are updating fleets of "slave" DNS servers.

@tek @miki
Sadly no... I only know about it cause I saw a demo of it 10ish years ago at a Google cloud presentation.

Decided to sit down and try to learn despite the fact that I don't have any real need for it on my little home server. Still, it's been interesting and - I won't lie - a bit frustrating at times. It's very much like using a chainsaw to butter my bread for my use case, but I had a nice feeling of satisfaction when I succeeded in getting set up through it. I've had some odd issues with Docker failing to launch certain containers through containerd that I have not been able to figure out, however.

I was putting thought into maybe redoing my server setup with kubernetes but I sincerely worry that I'll run into this same containerd issue with some of my other apps.

A leveling system from level 1 to 99

Level 2 xp needed: 15
Level 99 xp needed: 10 233 168

Crafting items gives XP per item/type etc, killing monsters and later on quests

With leveling up the player gets skillpoints that can be spend on health, stamina, air or energy

Ofc crafting certain items requires a certain level etc also weapons and armor

Simple demo of gather resources, craft item and level up in Unreal Engine 5

nikatjef,

I would encourage you to make everything the players can use as craftable... Please don't make any of the items drop-only.

I could live with people wanting to vote for RFK, Jr. because they equate the name with 2 dead Kennedys. But a woman on the pickelboard court across the street thinks it’s “That cute one. JFK’s son, right?”

Please keep in mind that a lot of Chump and RFK Jr supporters either don't believe that JFK jr is dead or believe he is going to come back to life to be Chump's 2024 running mate.

IIRC, a bunch of them gathered in Dallas last year when / where he was supposed to make a re-appearance.

Amazon Prime Video subscribers are about to see even more ads. In January, viewers who didn't pay an additional $3 a month started to see commercials. Now, Amazon has announced that it's adding what it describes as shoppable carousel ads, interactive pause ads and interactive brand trivia ads. Here's more from Ars Technica. We want to know, have you, or will you ditch streaming services as they start to add commercials?

Just in the last month;

  1. Physical machine booting up, getting a valid IP address and route from DHCP but being able to ping anything on the internet.
  2. VM SSH'ing to a specific IP address but getting to a machine with a different IP address.
  3. Deleting a file (successful) but still seeing the file on the filesystem with a 6 month old timestamp.

Been intentionally breaking things in my home lab to practice / learn new technologies. I am a human chaos monkey at times. 🤣

I am not so sure about that. 30 years ago Eliza was about the best you could get for "therapy" chat bots, now there are things like Replika, Elomia, Mindspa, etc. We have come a long ways in the last 30 years. Note that I am not saying good, just that we have come a long way.

And anyone who thinks a LLM is a RNG has even less clue.

No one is claiming they are sentient or that it understands what it is say, but the fact is that LLM systems are our-scoring humans on various collegiate tests, they are diagnosing diseases that medical professionals are missing.

nikatjef,
@nikatjef@mastodon.acm.org avatar

@tob @WhyNotZoidberg @root42 @Tattooed_Mummy
They are not "acing" the tests, instead they are out-scoring many people, but still missing various question. And they are missing questions where they do have the answers when the questions are asked a different way.

It turns out that humans can sometimes do kind-of-ok on tests given a very carefully constructed environment.

So what is your point?

Again, we are not claiming they are sentient or that they even understand the content.
