Welcome to my tiny corner of the internet! I'm an accessibility specialist for WhatsApp, which is about the least exciting thing about me. I also play video games--while blind! I hosted a politics podcast with Matt Cooper called The Game Is Rigged from 2017-2018. I've produced and acted in the Worm full-cast Audiobook project. I host a weekly show called Thoughtfood on Venom.FM from 12 to 3 PM PST on Sundays. I also sing and play drums. I'm even a snappy dresser--though this is disputed!

I really hate whataboutery.

If I post something about Ukraine, someone will ask, "But what about Gaza?"

If I post something about Gaza, someone will ask, "But what about Ukraine?"

It is okay to have an interest, but it is really not okay to waste everyone's time by popping up in every thread on Mastodon to ask, "Is my preferred topic not more important than this?"

It is not helpful. You are not not changing anything. You are just spamming, and that is not cool.

The system punishes you for not owing them money.

They want you to be in debt.

I don’t know how often free labor is requested by most folks in tech but it sure is requested a lot from people who focus on accessibility.

To put it simply, I do not accept unpaid work, and my peers in this space also do not.

Please be mindful that our time is valuable too, just like anyone’s.

Some people here are outraged that there are only toots about one genocide.

It’s true that the rest of the world should probably also pay attention to Tigray, Sudan, Uighur genocides, and also commemorate the anniversary of the Rwanda genocide, but at the same time, fuck you if you’re using other people’s pain to deflect your own lack of care for one group of people in particular

Love to see screen reader improvements mentioned in almost every Mortal Kombat 1 patch, and usually it’s something genuinely good, and this time is no different. We finally have a speed control! You could already do it on the system level on PC and Xbox but god this is a godsend on playstation. There’s also a new audio queue for fatal blow inputs

pitermach,

And now that the maintenance period ended and I was able to get in game it’s more than just the speed control, a bunch of other things were fixed as well. The combo strings in the tutorial are read. In invasions before you enter a challenge it tells you any modifiers and how big a tower is as well as if you’ve already completed this space, the elemental chart is spoken when you bring it up, the stat point allocation now speaks the number of remaining points correctly, and when you finish a tower the score and breakdown is announced (though this last one may not be new but I haven’t seriously played in a while). Lots of good stuff!

pitermach,

@ppatel @objectinspace They haven’t added a speedometer or other accessibility for telemetry, though there is now a user created app to give you that info. But they have added options to have your position spoken if it changes and the names of drivers ahead/behind of you which was another common request, plus some basic accessibility for painting your cars. They’ve also been fixing narration bugs when they come up. Now I think the biggest thing people want is some kind of audio queue or other feedback to tell you when you’re about to crash into someone, which ironically is also a common request by sighted players because it can sometimes be hard to see and other sim racing games have spotters (someone telling you over the radio when someone is directly behind or in front and which side you can pass them on)

Bought a motherboard to use with the sound card - a
QDI P5I430VX V3.0 Socket 7. I lived and loved the era of PC gaming where a motherboard like this would have been something I owned. I should have never gotten rid of anything. :)

Looks like it needs RAM, a hard drive and a power supply, but that is all doable, and the RAM might be somewhere in the house already. More info on the PicoGUS here! https://polpo.org/picogus/

Ideas are not democratic. They are either factually true, scientifically supported, or otherwise justified, or they are ambiguous, or they are just wrong. Lies don't have value just because somebody wants them to, and the devil doesn't need any more advocates.

Philosophers have spent hundreds of years banging out the basics of least harm, greater good, and freedom within limitations that we shouldn't have to relitigate it every time somebody doesn't want, e.g., to get a vaccination.

gwynnion,
@gwynnion@mastodon.social avatar

Progress continually grinds to a halt as people insist on debating or otherwise indulging bad faith actors who are just wrong, who are not interested in truth or scientific evidence, and who are motivated by hatred or greed or the naked desire for power, even when the arguments are exactly the same as the last time they were rejected.
