Welcome to my tiny corner of the internet! I'm an accessibility specialist for WhatsApp, which is about the least exciting thing about me. I also play video games--while blind! I hosted a politics podcast with Matt Cooper called The Game Is Rigged from 2017-2018. I've produced and acted in the Worm full-cast Audiobook project. I host a weekly show called Thoughtfood on Venom.FM from 12 to 3 PM PST on Sundays. I also sing and play drums. I'm even a snappy dresser--though this is disputed!

Hello. I have ~10 years experience as a developer and today I spent fifteen minutes of my wild and precious life debugging why an if check was returning true on a boolean variable when it was set to false only to eventually discover it was actually set to the string "false".

So if you're ever feeling like you're not smart enough to be a programmer, just remember: none of us are smart enough for dynamically typed languages.

The NYPD Spent $150 Million to Catch Farebeaters Who Cost the MTA $104,000

NYPD is a public resource (we pay for it) and is used as security for private companies.

MTA is for-profit where it matters. Being "on the brink of disaster" is their business model.

We are financing our own oppression.

Bitwarden now supports WebAuthn to log into the vault on free accounts! 🎉 Finally, a password/passkey manager I can feel comfortable using. I didn't consider it worthwhile before because I don't want my access to everything gatekept on my ability to pay, which I might not always have in the future. And there was no way I'd trust all my credentials to a single password without WebAuthn, nor to a proprietary password manager.

Bitwarden recently implemented support for storing passkeys (discoverable FIDO2 credentials) in its vault, but unfortunately that isn't supported to log into Bitwarden yet, though it is planned soon. When that is implemented, I plan to send a Yubikey to a geographically distant friend in case of natural disaster/house fire/robbery. If your backup plan isn't resilient to those, rethink it! https://community.bitwarden.com/t/sign-into-bitwarden-with-a-passkey-google-apple-microsoft/41053/

I don't claim to have the answers to anything, but I thought about this a little yesterday during my spa day.

🤜🏾 How to fight .🤛🏾

Voting doesn't stop fascism. Not when the party that's supposed to oppose it seems pretty inept at even recognizing it's on our doorstep.

(Don't come at me about Joe. Just don't.)

So it's up to us. I've mentioned that speech by Mario Savio (thanks to the folks who identified that for me!) in the 60s about throwing our bodies onto the gears of the machine when the machine has become odious to operate.

That's where we are. Looking at a machine is starting to gear up faster and faster.

So here are my measly two cents and they're free to anyone - Black, white, whoever:

👥 Identify, build, and support (which includes defense) your chosen community.

(note: if there's a community that you want to join please don't put on your big britches and start stomping around.)

🛠️ Find your wrenches, big or small, and hurl them into the part of the machine that's in front of you.

lunchmeat,

@DeliaChristina I feel like this is a powerful message - I believe Capital is made up of people. Corporations are mechanisms driven by the choices people make. We need people with consciouses in places to make choices, no matter how small, that will liberate us. Sometimes that is big subversion and sometimes it’s very incremental. What’s important is that we remember that we have the ability to choose. What the fascists want more than anything is for us to believe that our choices don’t matter

I’m playing this first-person open-world game called ‘Life’, and it’s so hard it’s almost unplayable. The character classes are really unbalanced, and you don’t even get to choose one: it’s just assigned when you start playing. They introduced some assists to make things easier (if you can find them buried in the menus), but the elite players complained and they’re being patched out again. Accessibility features for those with disabilities are severely lacking. And it only has permadeath mode.

This US bill could push mandatory age-verification on all major platforms (meaning you would have to give your ID to someone likely to abuse or not protect very well your sensitive data).

Imagine how much worse that would be for any marginalized groups.

Imagine how much that could endanger vulnerable people.

Imagine how destructive that would be for anyone’s .

Going through my notes on There Are No Accidents by Jessie Singer (@JessieSinger), and I figured I'd share them here as I process them.

This is a book about how our systemic decisions make America a dangerous place to live. It really made clear to me that Covid is nothing new. We've always been needlessly cavalier with each other's lives - especially the lives of the poorest and most marginalized among us.

Happy !

I'm still not onto Black history. I'm still on white US history.

Q: Why were Black folk so happy when OJ was acquitted? To be honest, it feels disgusting. Why does it seem like you're happy he got away with murder?

A: Racism. Black folk did not like OJ that much. In fact, many Black people think he did it. Black folk didn't "celebrate OJ." Black folk celebrated the hope that a brutally unjust, evil, and racist system, could be defeated at all.
