Enjoyed this piece on “cozy community software” by @erlend and very much looking forward to the release of Commune, the platform he’s building in an attempt to embody these principles.

My Skill Trees project is starting to grow! I'm building up a collection of printable open source templates that can guide and track progression in hands-on skills. Colour in the boxes as you complete each skill and get inspired to try new things. I'm seeking experts in a variety of areas to continue to grow the repository and help with translation into different languages. Like it's taken me years to get good at frontend dev, backend dev, project management, marketing, user support and also realizing how I can use my growing following to benefit other people and projects

And now it's all coming together and I couldn't be happier 😁

Building @pixelfed and everything else is a dream I've had for so many years and now I'm just in awe of the fact I'm actually doing this.

Never stop believing in yourself ❤️

  • 7.2% of American adults are LGBTQ. That's 18.9 million adults, or larger than the entire veteran population.
  • 11 million Americans are bisexual. That's more people than the entire state of Georgia.
  • 3.6 million Americans are gay. That's more than the entire state of Utah.
  • 2.6 million Americans are lesbian. That's more people than every single farmer in the country.
  • and 1.6 million of us are transgender. That's TWICE as many as there are cops in the entire United States.

When people say "we shouldn't change our entire society just to pander to such a small percentage of it", that's obviously a really dumb argument from just an ethical stance. But it's also a really dishonest one. Because they would never say the same thing about veterans, farmers, cops, or the populations of entire States.

In 2009, when this cartoon was made to communicate the COP15 discussions, the many co-benefits from climate action seemed distant.

Now they are much closer. Both because we are in a hurry. And because tech has improved.

Imagine: A kid born today may experience a world where pollution from road transport is history, before he/she/they turns 18.

Does anyone know a Federated app (one that uses ActivityPub) that allows for multi-user access to a single profile?

For a contra-example, if I use Mastodon to create a profile for an organization, I can only create one account and one password. Sure I could share that password with other org leaders, but if one person changes the password, the others are locked out.

So I need an app that can create a multi-user profile and that people can access with their own username and password and give "admin" rights to multiple people, less privileged account rights to others, etc.

Then folks could post to that one account.

Any ideas?

Hi. Can I have a word?

When you use a could you capitalise each word please? That way, people using screen readers will hear each individual word, which means they'll get more useful context as a result.

When you don't capitalise hashtags the words string together and make no sense.

For example would read as "This Is How" while would sound something like "thissy show". A small change for you but a game changer for many people.

Be nice; get good karma. Thanks.

Hey the !
Today, I have released the version 0.1.0 of my new project, f2ap, an application that adds a compatibility layer for to your website thanks to your / feed!

You can see a running example at @blog! 🤩

Currently, only the support for Mastodon is guaranteed, but there are a lot of other platforms out there. If you are on another social platform, please help me document the platforms support! 🙏

Currently wondering about the feasibility of integrating into a personal website so it can directly share content with the and receive comments and likes.

Is this something that people do? If not, why?

aral, to random
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

Here’s an idea: let’s call people “people” on the fediverse instead of “users” whenever we can.

Compare:

“There are 42 users on this instance.”

vs

“There are 42 people on this instance.”

Which acknowledges our humanity more?

Language matters. We don’t need to perpetuate mainstream technology’s othering/colonial framing of “us” – designers/developers/other “clever folks” – and “them” – the users (usually one step removed from “dumb user” and usually the ones who get used).

Fediverse: United in Diversity. The European Take On Social Networking.

This image was created by Arnold Schrijver for the SocialHub ActivityPub event on 19 April 2021 on the topic of "ActivityPub for Administrations". The event, while open to anyone, is oriented towards EU institutions and EC representatives. In two webinars and a workshop we demonstrate how an administration can join the Fediverse.

SocialHub, the community of technologists that innovate the fediverse, was organizing in collaboration with NGI Zero, who support fediverse research and development with EU funds.
