In honor of Stevie Wonder’s 74th birthday today, enjoy this absolutely jamming rendition of Superstition he performed on Sesame Street in 1973. And don’t miss the little boy in red rocking out up on the staircase 😁
For #MusicWomenWednesday hosted by @loewe here are two great acoustic versions performed by the fabulous Joss Stone in 2015 at Paste Studios, New York 🤩
In the summer of 1971, "Mr. Big Stuff" raced up the Top 40 and Soul charts, and was Billboard's #1 Soul Single that year. The record sold more than 2 million copies and was nominated for a Grammy.
"Mr. Big Stuff" was Knight's signature song, but she made many other soul and R&B records.
Nina Simone - Love Me Or Leave Me (live on the Ed Sullivan Show, 1960)
Last music post for the afternoon due to internet outage. Did you know Nina was a genius on piano? I used to post this on the birdsite once a year, so if you followed me there you probably do know it, but if not, check this shit out! The switch from the swinging jazz feel of the song into the Bach style classical instrumental break is amazing & the move back is even better👑
I fell in love with #BeOS the moment I saw a screenshot of it on a magazine in 1998. It took me by a storm, for some fateful reason. A year later I was running BeNews, the main news site for it, and the year after I met and got married to one of its engineers, my beloved @jbqueru, and moved to the US. At its height in 2000, BeOS had ~100k users. I hope its spiritual descendant, the #openSource#Haiku, makes it larger, and proliferates.
🎧 #Mood | A day WITH #StevieWonder is always better than a day WITHOUT Stevie Wonder.
Fall of 1976, nothing was more exciting than the double-LP + 45 single — "Songs in the Key of Life" and I played it to death.
It was an album you put on, plugged in your headphones. listened to a side, flipped it and listened to the other side. ALL the songs are favorites, but here's one.
Sad to hear that Hepcat singer Gregory Lee passed away recently. He certainly had a sweet and clear voice.
Didn't listen to a lot of Hepcat frankly, but I love the tracks "I Can't Wait" and "Riding the Region" that were on the Hellcat Records "Give 'Em The Boot" compilations, which I listened to constantly throughout high school. Nostalgic for me, and otherwise fantastic chill tunes in that classic ska/soul pocket for sure.
The Bugis are Muslim, but their belief is strongly influenced by their ancestral #religion.
One #belief centres around the Monitor lizard. The animal is believed to have a human #soul & to be the twin of children. They are treated with respect.
Bugis also categorize people into 5 genders. Each is needed to keep the universe in balance.
Bissu, the #gender which is neither man nor woman, is the intermediary between humans & #gods.
