There are few places to stand where you see out so far, capture such a vista. The ocean is one, the Grand Canyon another.

What I like about this outlook is the perspective it gives, reminding me to look for such a sight in a metaphorical sense as well, not giving in to being circumscribed by walls.

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park (5/13/2023). Monument Valley is part of the Colorado Plateau a geomorphic province of buttes, mesas, volcanoes, deep canyons, & stunning rock colors. Reds & oranges predominate in the geology of the region due to oxidation of the iron rich rocks. There are also numerous fossils, petrified forests, & enumerable cultural sites within the ~336,700km^2 province.

There is nothing unusual or strange about the desire to be free, living independently of onerous rules, regulations, taxes, fees, conscription, and coercion.

It is only the people who profit by our subservience who extol the virtues of obedience to authority.

Throwback to one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken. My wife (fiancée at the time) sitting inside Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. Taken 12th June 2008 with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi.

Maybe it's because I grew up in small towns and country settings that I prefer to avoid crowds. When I travel to well known spots, like Zion National Park, I enjoy the challenge of finding the isolated, generally undiscovered landscapes that are just as beautiful, or more, than the areas where everyone is flocking.

It's like a castle

Standing guard over the land.

Grand, great, and timeless.

There are castles made by humans, and those by nature. I prefer the latter because they're not reserved for a small population of humans who feel that their blood is better than that of others.

Some inanimate objects possess definite personalities, and the Watchman at Zion National Park in Utah, USA, is one of these. Strong, powerful, and benevolent, it sends the message that it is looking out for and protecting the landscape under its aegis. All is right when the Watchman is on guard.

On the edge, where nobody is, it's wild and rugged, a bit lonely -- because you stand alone -- but with an unparalleled view unblocked by a forest of others that look too much the same.

When I am below in the valley, I look up, and I see the landscape around me in a certain way. But when I stand at the heights and look down, I see the same landscape in a different way. Perspective matters.

The sun and dryness are really hard on things out here, especially plastic. Plastic does not stand a chance.

I just picked up one of those Lowe's blue buckets full of dirt, or tried to, and it literally exploded into a hundred pieces.

Any day now the luminaria or farolitos as known in some regions will start lighting up the dark night sky of New Mexico. I love the charm as the lights warm outdoor spaces especially when placed along the multi levels of traditional adobe architecture.

The profound wisdom and depth of the Navajo Boy's spirit radiates from his expressive eyes. The lines etched into his face already tell a tale of resilience and a profound connection to his deep-rooted heritage. I recreated this artwork from an image taken by Carl Moon.
