Einfache, quelloffene Lösungen ohne viel Hickhack bevorzugt. Server ist Linux, Empfangsssystem wäre Android. Tipps oder Empfehlungen?

Ok, I’ve been surprised by a couple people mentioning how long they keep their iPhones. Now I’m curious, how long do you keep your flagship phone (android-based or iPhone) before upgrading?

😂🤣😂 Some of my siblings are addicts (I belong to the iCult of ), so maybe I convince them to buy a 8 from ‽ 😜

👉🏾 Face Unlock on the Google Pixel 8 has reportedly been tricked already https://www.androidpolice.com/face-unlock-google-pixel-8-tricked-already/

I could understand if this was happening with identical twins, but siblings is not a good outlook. I believe (what Google calls themselves nowadays) will fix this issue shortly.

Now I need to talk to my iDevice hating brother… 😉

I'm as excited about the rumors of improved desktop modes and video out support for the Pixel 8 as the next guy, but we've fielded these kinds of rumors before.

Currently the only phone I have that can run an Android 14 beta, AND has video out, just did this using the desktop mode in Android dev settings.

Which is even more broken than the A13 desktop mode, which was already almost nonfunctional from the A12 mode.

I really WANT Google to give us a Pixel 8 with a proper desktop or tablet large screen mode, but I'm not getting my hopes up until we see the phone in action.

I'm using the Pixel Tablet w/Android as a "computer" today, and yeah, it still falls short in a few ways.

For touch-based multitasking, I love the new split view, taskbar, and overall setup. But for a mouse and keyboard, it's not there yet, which, fair, they don't advertise it as a laptop replacement!

For anyone curious, here's what I've found so far (thread). I hope this can help inform some good/bad for people designing adaptive experiences.

I must be a block head but for the life of me I can't figure this out. I have a Pixel 4 phone I use for development testing. It's still on Google Fi. I bought it directly from Google. It's been off for several months. I'm trying to get the latest OS update and it says that the latest version of Android is 13 not 14. That's fine. But it says the version I have installed, from over a year ago, is the latest version of Android 13. Am I missing something? Forcing it to go out for the update refresh is returning that I have the latest version. Did Google Drop support for a 4 year old phone getting security updates?

Slightly different database question today:
I am interested in online, remote database for my Android Apps
Is there anywhere (cheap/free) that I can use, or do I have to set up my own (I have a domain/website)
I know about Firebase, but that is NoSQL/document-database.

Any ideas?

:think_bread:

Google TalkBack has a new feature in Verbosity settings. Verbosity controls what and how much TalkBack speaks. The option is called "Speak all progress updates: Includes updates while downloading, following driving directions, and more. When turned off, you'll still get less frequent updates."

So, what do y'all think of the wording of this option? I really mean the "following driving directions" part. It really stood out to me, and was yet another reminder that I cannot drive. I mean, I know it's Google. I know that I shouldn't be holding my breath for any kind of great things from them, and that these things are to be expected. But this, in options for a screen reader?

Maybe I'm just being too sensitive as always. I don't know. But goodness, they could have said "walking" directions and it'd be fine. And maybe there's just this "UI" team that writes labels for features, and the TalkBack team didn't actually write the description for the feature. But there just comes a point where language and wording are important, and we shouldn't let these companies control that.

i have a question.

lets say i have an apk.
i want to fetch all the dns names in it that are being used for API calls.

Are there tools that make that easy, or are we still talking about 'decompile the apk and manually go through all the code by hand'?
