The way mastodon breaks threads when there's a hidden profile involved is very unhelpful. You don't see the top of the thread, it stops at the first hidden post. Just put a placeholder there to say wtf is going on?? IDK if that hidden-by-admin is the same as when you're blocked by that account (which is also silly, to hide public posts from my view because I'm logged in, while I can see the replies.)
@enobacon that would be too slow, when someone tweets an approval of genocide, a denial of climate change or a love of the spectacle then immediate #blocking is necessary
Our latest report documents extensive LGBTIQ censorship & the blocking of Change.org, Global Fund for Women, GlobalGiving, Open Society Foundations, Clubhouse and ProtonVPN (among others) in #Tanzania based on OONI data. 🧵
The US government has suspended its effort to survey #cryptocurrency#mining operations over their ballooning energy use following a lawsuit from an industry that has been accused by environmental groups of fueling the climate crisis.
A federal judge in Texas has granted a temporary order #blocking the new requirements that would ascertain the energy use of the crypto miners, stating that the industry had shown it would suffer “#irreparable#injury” if it was made to comply.
Right, #blocked folks can still read your posts if they want to (they get curious?) from a webage and they have not signed into their mastodon account.
So, no need to explain to potential negative posters or give them more evident, just tell em, "read my posts from a web browser bro, if you get curious"
I don't quite understand when people think my #blocking them is them "winning." It's not me winning or losing. It's just ... a thing. If I'm on a BART train and someone is wearing strong perfume or watching loud videos on speaker so i change cars, or if I've got a rock on my shoe so I take it out, or if there's bad freeway traffic so I take a parallel road, the person on BART or the rock in my shoe or Caltrans aren't #winning. Neither am I. I'm just choosing not to deal with them anymore.
Here’s a neat little trick in case you don’t already know it: If you block someone and then unblock them, you can get them to stop following you.
I call it bucking :)
So, if you want to try and avoid all the drama that comes with blocking and just don’t want someone to keep following you and commenting on your stuff, try bucking before blocking. And if they’re persistent, you can always block and/or report for harassment, etc.
I call it bucking because following someone on the fediverse is not a right you have but a privilege they bestow upon you. It’s them inviting you onto their back to carry you with them on their journey. And if they want you off their back, that’s their right.
(If you try to clamber back on or harass them for it, it shows that you don’t respect consent and you should probably take that as a prompt for self-reflection.)
#NGIForum23 The is no way to edit or remove questions. The is no way to talk to anyone... A normal #NGI "trust" #4opens fail, except this time it is a hardcoded due to the use of this CMS for the event. Before this we used #FOSS with #BBB which worked well, then #dotcons silos that worked after a fight each time to get chat turned on, now we are here #blocking, every #EU tech event has pushed this "control" mess over the public. What are you guys in "control" going to do to stop this.
Please always respect #Indigenous territories & don't do any #TribalTourism anywhere, without consent first. The #Sentineli don't want foreigners on their island - for really good reasons.
Now this is interesting. U of Chicago professors Ben Zhao and Heather Zheng have written an image distortion tool “Glaze” that actively poisons the training data for AI when artists’ work is scraped without compensation to train AI. And they’ve open-sourced it: Computer Science for Good (and a little mischief) https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/23/1082189/data-poisoning-artists-fight-generative-ai/
