The good news for Barrow is that the Govt. is about to confirm (again?) a £200mn contribution to the town's 'transformation fund' to help address various poverty, health & housing issues in the town.

However, this is part of the support being offered to Barrow's BAE Systems plant intended to support/push the further development of the UK's nuclear capability - the Barrow plant is where nuclear subs are built.

Good for Barrow, less good for realistic UK defence strategy?

Come on, would defense contractor really orchestrate death between testimonies of whistleblower when individuals there could face financial & criminal consequences for things they testify about?

Suggesting it is ludicrous. Boeing would never have any part in killing a whistleblower. Literally last thing they’d do. No movies even about that sort of thing, total crazy fantasy.

The NATO civil and military budgets combined are about $2.5 billion. The US military budget is about $766 billion, or over 300 times the entire budget of NATO. We need countries to show up and fight to protect NATO counties, not write checks.

The only way Europe survives the next 10 years is by dramatically ramping up its military-industrial production.

We are not ready for a Russian attack, and Trump's America won't help us. Europe needs to start producing everything it needs itself, and fast.

People don’t realize school lunch programs in the US were partly created to provide for our defense. Malnourished children grow up (if they do) to be not great soldiers. So those against kids having lunch whether their families can afford it or not aren’t just cruel, they’re also soft on defense.

I see (currently secretary) has said the era of the 'peace dividend' is over & we need to spend more on defence given the current international climate.

I'm not goitre to get into whether this is the right or wrong analysis & approach... what I want to question is: 'peace dividend'?

After a decade & half of , an engineered crisis in the public sector & , with the crisis & stagnated economic development.... what peace dividend, was that?

The war in Ukraine is in some ways like many wars from the past but some things are very different and i think all armies in the world are taking notes.
For example the large sucess of small drones against anything on the battlefield. No modern army in Europe is fully prepared for that threat yet. Also it's probably a matter of time before some terrorist groups will find a use of these technologies in their actions. Dangerous times ahead.
