Does anyone know any great self-pace #courses on #accessibily for #frontend and #web development? I'd like to get better at it, especially in light of upcoming regulations in the #EU.
"Browser makers want one thing: not being blamed for being slow or showing things "wrong". So we work with lots of partners to see why their products are misbehaving. In these "performance clubs" in Mozilla and Microsoft we kept running into the same issue: web products with tons of senseless #HTML, unused #CSS and an avalanche of #JavaScript sent to the end users with no benefit to them. All the benefits were for the convenience of the #developers"
What kind of (compensated) conferences could a #frontend developer with a knack for #accessibility apply to?
I don't have a significant following, nor a personal website (yet), but plenty of workshops / presentations ready.
I applied to #figma#Config2023 but they said no and ghosted me ever since. I also know of #id24 but that's about it. All the other ones I know and like are invite-only as far as I can tell.
Boosts and suggestions appreciated, maybe there's even a list out there? Thanks! 🙌
Why so many dark themes on apps and websites are 100% black?
That's one of the first rules of colour theory in design: never use 100% white or 100% black, they're just bad to the eyes, and hard to read because of the excessive contrast.
Instead, while trying not to burn my retina staring at a light theme I can sometimes get some bad eyes strain from staring at a 100% black BG and 100% white FG UI.
If you're going to #SmashingConf SF later this month, consider doing a 10-minute lightning talk (about #frontend#ux#webperf or #a11y) at the Jam Session. It's a fun way to get speaking experience in a friendly environment at a great event!
When creating DOM elements do you add classes to elements, even if there isn't a CSS style associated with it? Or do you have a lot of "bare" divs/spans/whatever?
I’m a #FrontEnd dev professionally since 2006, now based in Singapore. My 1st involvement in #OpenSource was with Mozilla/Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix when I created a 3rd-party (full) theme called #Phoenity
How would you code this sort of outset gradient border with:
❌no JS
⚠️only 1 img element
❌no magic values for the gradient stops, they're obtained from img source
⚠️no SVG, no images in general other than the actual image & the border one
Cześć, jestem Kuba. Jestem frontend deweloperem. Głównie sci-fi i fantasy, czasem jakiś reportaż, ten ostatni głównie książkowo.
Thanks to Lullabots podcast (and @mherchel) I discovered a new Twig filter add_suggestion I immediately started using in a Drupal 10 project I'm building.
I wrote down my findings on my blog (it's really easy!).
I’ve spent the last few months crafting my own home on the Web, and I wanted to make sure it presented me as a human, not defined solely by my work as a #DesignEngineer / #WebDev.
This has also been a great opportunity to finally use #Svelte & #SvelteKit in a project. I love how easy it was to learn and how intuitive it is, as someone who started with vanilla HTML and CSS
