@tweedge I actually would enjoy a fridge with an ESP32 and a few sensors provided all is documented and I can flash it with #ESPHOME so chose what I automate what I want myself.
What I don’t want is an app that stops getting updates after 3 years and just serves to send me spam.
Congratulations to the second anniversary of excellent open source conference, Open UK. Huge thanks for the hosts, sponsors and volunteers, who organised State of Open Con 2024 by Open UK. I'm super happy to get an author-signed copy of 'Open Source Law, Policy and Practice' by Amanda Brock @AmandaBrock
I am #300 who backed #tangara, an open hardware digital audio companion. 🎧
I am so excited, I just can't hide it... sing
Thanks @jacqueline, @buzzyrobin, @ailurux, @ErinRose and Michelle St Claire for making this device. I am already excited to throw my >10k song FLAC file library at it and listen to it with my dt770pro 250 ohm headphones to them.
I was going to get an #RPi#raspberrypi 5 but then I heard about the Sony deal and the #IPO and I think of all the people who've put hours and hours of their free time into a product which was (?is) #OpenHardware and how the directions of that product will now be subject to shareholder rather than user desires.
Sure, we need to think about sustainability in all things #OpenSource but what's the bet ARM or NVIDIA will buy it out to shutter it?
"Tangara is a cool, hackable, ESP32-powered music player that provides high-quality audio, long battery life, and a design that’s easy to customize, repair, and upgrade."
It’s the year of tiny hardware, so yes, I ordered one!
No better place to free your mind (from the "hell, no, I can't build this cutting edge 2-photon microscope/ephys rig/weird robot by myself* within a week" attitude) (*where "by myself" = "standing on the shoulder of giants, i.e. great other course participants and the best instructors ever") than #tensss, the Transylvanian #experimental#neuroscience#summerschool. Great place to learn about #openscience, #openhardware, and what else the neuroscientific experimentalist's heart desires.
"OpenWrt, the open source firmware that sprang from Linksys' use of open source code in its iconic WRT54G router and subsequent release of its work, is 20 years old this year. To keep the project going, lead developers have proposed creating a "fully upstream supported hardware design," one that would prevent the need for handling "binary blobs" in modern router hardware and let DIY router enthusiasts forge their own path."
Guys, gals, everyone, please consider either not posting on #Medium or at least cross-post it on places like your own blog or @writefreely , especially if you are writing about #OpenSource or #OpenHardware. There are plenty of instances that are available:
New blog post about NLnet Foundation's funding of an auto-documentation system for open hardware. The CAD and documentation are generated and kept in sync with one another. #OpenHardware#OpenSource
The AXIOM Electronics Manufactring Line: On The Move now has a proper music video 😊 and lots of insights into what now seems to appear to have been a pretty easy job in 2 minutes - it actually wasn't ....
