One of the nice things about being able to write software is when a software company (or series of them) frustrate me enough, I can just write my own.

The drawback is actually doing it.

I’m glad I’m not a data hoarder. Trapped into using software because, “They have all my data!”

I guess we’re back in software mode…unless…

You know of a completely standalone bookkeeping application that doesn’t suck (no account connection needed).

ok uh... what do I do when git tries to gaslight me? These windows both show the same repository, but on two different machines. They are both up to date and checked out to the same commit on the same branch. They should have the same files, right?

Wrong! Somehow, this file has different contents between the computers. Am I hallucinating? What is happening???? :aqua_aaa:

Update: I figured it out! One of the repositories had an extra remote defined, and it was pointing to a random old fork. Guess which remote was set as upstream for the stable branch? :neofox_woozy:

Nice. did it; they're now makeing where they added already more features. And there's no doubt that they'll continue this path forward, putting more and more effort in the enterprise version and keeping the free version from getting these features via contributions since it would ruin their company.

And best thing is: they already are stealing code. They took stale PR's and put it into the Enterprise version. Thats just disgusting. And unlike gitlab, which EE is not only opensource (i.e. readable), they also have a lot of paid engineers to built their product, unlike gitea, where like 95% of work is done by volunteers, not only now but in the past included. It's espc disgusting for how cheap the features are, like an IP allowlist. Which gets even more sad when you think about what would happen if a volunteer would contribute similar features to the free version. Atleast we have not to guess as it is clearly stated in their contributors guidlines: they have added a clause once they became a company, that they can "politly refuse" any PR by simply not responding. That stinks for me after a tactic of keeping face while not allowing any code that would conflict with the enterprise version.

Source: https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/blob/83850cc4799285d766d0fb5751fff10a6e4d3353/CONTRIBUTING.md?plain=1#L324

Im so glad I already switched to .

Only thing left is to close up my pr's to gitea as fast as possible to not support this trainwreck anymore.

Given I still have time on my hands, and I just had an interesting accessibility experience with a financial app:

  1. Would you be interested in articles that basically boil down to, “This probably could be better, and here’s what can be done to fix it”?

  2. Would you like me to come hang out with you at no cost?

Multiple choice poll. Boosts would be appreciated as I am small. :)

I am seeking some extra software development work to supplement my income.

I am a software engineer and architect with 25 years of experience in multiple programming languages, though lately I mostly focus on , , and . I have worked in many industries, including healthcare, legal, and finance.

My specialty is in large refactoring projects with the goal of cleaning up and optimizing old, stale, or simply poorly-designed code. I also have experience designing and implementing applications from the ground up.

I am able to take on either an advisory or a hands-on role, depending on your needs.

Nights and weekends only, though I can make accommodations for certain planning meetings, etc, as long as they don't conflict with my day job.

If you think you might need some help, let's talk!

hazelnoot, to queer

Hello! I'm Hazel, a queer foxgirl software developer.

I'm a transfem demigirl and I also describe myself as lesbian, although its a bit more complicated than that. I care deeply about trans issues, queer life, and other LGBTQ+ topics. DMs are open to anyone questioning their gender or struggling with their identity.

I also love programming as a hobby and I babble with retro-computing. I've got a particular fondness for 80s era computers, even though they're well before my time. There's just something fun about the unique and creative computer designs from that decade! I've got a Timex Sinclair 2068 that I especially love.

Some other things I like are PC gaming and TTRPGs. You'll often find me playing Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, or D&D 5th edition. I also love trying out indie games, so please tell me about your own!

My current passion project is ActivityPub Sharp - an attempt to build a static-typed implementation of ActivityPub with full support for spec-compliant and real-world federation. I also contribute to Letterbook with the hope of sparking a new generation of safer and more private fediverse software.

Feel free to start up a conversation about these or any other topics - I love to chat!

Once again I'm pinged in the dev thread about grouping notifications of the same type, which started back 6 years ago: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/1483 .

There were several attempts at implementing it, all shot down by maintainers.

@Gargron , do you still stand by your comment from https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/11446#issuecomment-516297592 ?

Is there space for discussing and implementing notification grouping in this app?
