It would appear that “former Tory MP Antoinette Sandbach has threatened the University of Cambridge with legal action after a historian named her as a descendant of merchants who enslaved his ancestors.”

Oh, my… It would be a damn shame if more people knew of this so please do not boost this post.

Meanwhile in :

On a low turnout (37.2%), Labour secured a 20% swing in tis favour to win the beating the SNP by 58% to 27% of the vote... while the crashed to 3.9%.

And, now the reading of the runes can get under way....

Can 'win back' Scotland?

Is this indicative of how the vote might go in a general election?

Does it suggest concerns about 's electoral appeal are miss-placed?

I'm looking forward to the weekend papers

Two charts that suggest even voters have had enough of this government - with the two issues the are seen by most as failing on, being the very issues that now regard as key.

However, while that may be good news on the - people may appreciate its an Govt, engineered crisis... the issue of 'handling' may be less positive result if that means a tougher stance is preferred (by these voters)

(the poll is of people who voted Tory in the last election)

Chart: Which of the following are the most important issues facing the country (respondents asked to pick three) Health/NHS - 70% Immigration - over 50% Economy -45% Energy/power - just over 30% Crime - 25% all the rest (in deciding order, but 20% or below): Environmental issues Public services/benefits Housing Defence EU/Brexit Education Terrorism Inequality foreign affairs (excl. brexit) constitutional issues

Shettleston councillor Thomas Kerr steps into the ring, fresh from all the crying about his constituents being anti-English (which went down just as well as you'd imagine). Seems certain at this point Labour will take the seat but the pre-emptive crowing about the rest seems misguided. Justified resentment of one SNP MP is not likely to carry Labour through in other places. And if they don't get the seat it would be genuinely funny, at least.

Martin Wolf (FT) is right to be worried about the corrosive effects on the UK of our deepening mistrust in government.

However, if anyone thinks this is an accidental by-product of rule, they've missed something important.

The right want to discredit Govt. because they want us to think the private sector will save us from corrupt & untrustworthy .

The Tories want to wreck & fostering distrust in Govt. is an important element of their project to transform the UK.

Yesterday: I posted about the UK far-right conservatives "... at a guess, I suspect Miriam Cates could be their next figurehead, but let's see"

https://tech.lgbt/@Natasha_Jay/110646348678235232

So that was some tea-leaf 🌿 reading as today: we see Miriam Cates MP all over the press with the "New Conservatives" (a statement by her was played on LBC radio when I was driving).

Comment: She and co-lead Danny Kruger MP are both evangelical christians, as is Steve Baker MP

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jul/03/tory-group-warns-sunak-he-risks-losing-election-if-he-doesnt-cut-net-migration

> "New Conservatives such as Miriam Cates also say large number of (immigration) arrivals risks damaging UK’s cultural security"

Comment: From this splintering and "noise", we can see jostling for the post General Election Tory party leadership / influence and power grabs already being made (they know they are out of power ofc)

And what could "cultural security" be other than racism dressed-up?

Can it be any surprise that after a decade of stagnant real , the dire state of UK practice, the continued media focus on celebrity culture (where the talentless but 'entertaining' are rewarded) & a government that has made it its to shove money to its mates, that a significant minority of young people increasingly do not see a clear link between hard work and a 'better life'.

The only Q. is how fast is this feeling spreading?

I missed that the HoC Privileges is now going to produce a further report on the attacks & intimidation it was subject to while preparing the report;

this is starting to have the feel of a proper spring clean around the political practices of the Johnson era.

is this the beginning of the end for the most caustic elements of the party?

We can but hope.

Ms Abbott: "It's frightening. I'm a single woman & after Jo Cox, this makes me feel even more vulnerable."

The Doctors have been forced into this position by a succession of secretaries who either on their own or being instructed by No.10 are playing hard-ball.

We've seen how negotiates on the research programme... he's prepared to wreck the institution around which negotiations are taking place.

So more wrecking of the , not, NOT, 'militant doctors'!

Kwarteng is supposed to be one of the intellects of the party, but they can none of them – not Kwarteng, not Campbell, not even Stewart – string two concepts together.

Britain may be in crisis, but our dynamic PM is working night and day to turn it round ….
Hello, my names Rishi, do you know how to fix a cost of living crisis?

ArtBear, (edited ) to uk

Almost no-one in MSM seems to put certain things in context together.

Public spending is planned to be cut by 16.7% over 5yrs by Hunt the C-word, & I don't mean Chancellor.
+
Sunak as a previous C-word, (this time I also mean Chancellor), almost uniquely amongst countries allowed tax dodger companies based in tax havens to claim Covid loans, £253 BILLION worth that public accounts said we will never likely see again.

It’s another blow to the police and party that their attempts to criminalise Greta and other climate protestors has failed because of the sloppiness of police communications.

But what’s also striking is the judge drew attention to the fact this was peaceful, non-violent protest that impeded no one…so why the rush to prosecute?

This was bound to have been known about when the investigations were happening!

So ask yourself - 'Why has this appeared now?' Just before the vote in HoC & 4 by-elections!

'Who has held onto to this information until now?'

'What are they up too?'

that need answers too but hardly anyone in the media will ask!

NOW... are we allowed to call this current crop of ministers and administration SCUM?????

Painting over to make children feeling slightly more welcome after the horrors they have seen.

It is a new low even for a Home Office run by someone like Suella who would fit into 1930's Germany comfortably.

No I won't apologise, No I won't moderate my language or watch my tone.

We need to get rid of this lot ASAP it is now a sake of holdiing onto our humanity.
