I see a lot of people sharing blanket condemnations of all of those who still remain on #Twitter / #Xitter , and I need you to slow down a bit.
Sure, in some cases this is justified - journalists should really know better. But there are a lot of communities on that platform that are vital to many people's well-being that haven't been replicated on the #Fediverse or elsewhere. Take #BlackTwitter - while #BlackMastodon is growing, it's still minuscule in comparison. The number of Twitter users in #Pakistan is staggering, while they are only a handful on #Mastodon . And so on, and so forth. Twitter was a lifeline to many marginalized people, and it still is - even though it gets worse every day - and we need to recognize this.
As a white European guy, it was easy for me to walk away from Twitter (I still have an account there, but I only post "you should go to Mastodon" stuff these days) - since it is easy to find people of a similar background to interact with. But this is NOT true for everyone!
So I'd like everyone to show a bit less contempt to the remaining Twitter users in general, and put some more effort in how to make the Fediverse friendlier to marginalized voices. Because there is MUCH work to be done here!

I look in on #Xitter every now and then. Not to post, but to look in on a handful of favourite very-much-non-Nazi accounts like station cats and allotments near where I used to study.
I’ve approached them to suggest moving here or even BlueSky with an invite code, but while some have responded , they seem too busy with their real jobs to migrate, and I get that. It’s sad, but what can you do?
Like waiting for a best mate to realise their partner is a toxic twunt and leave.
Well no shit, Sherlock, you have 5 followers and last post is from April. It's like saying "I have no audience in here, it's just sand!" - well wtf you are doing alone in the desert? Makes no sense.

There's a lot of focus on #journalist#Xitter to #Mastodon migration, but the overall story is quite a bit bigger I think.
The #Fediverse offers huge opportunity for independent journalism in a world where so much of #news media are consolidated and in the hands of shady mogul billionaires. In other words Fediverse is both a threat to existing business models, as well as market opportunity.

“#Twitter has been accused in a revised civil US lawsuit of helping Saudi Arabia commit grave human rights abuses against its users, incl by disclosing confidential user data at the request of Saudi authorities at a much higher rate than it has for the US, UK, or Canada.
Boostable decentralized LIFO social feed services (like #mastodon) should implement a reddit-style rating system (but absolutely only for replies). It would make conversations here much better, deal with the #ReplyGuy problem and give us a better version of the #CommunityNotes feature they have over at #Xitter.
Safety on social media is inherently biased. Somebody or some group has to make that call. That's why moderation can't be done with respect for free speech at the network level. Doing it only at the personal level means people will be exposed to crap until they see it and block it themselves. Instance and personal control therefore is a great compromise, but it can't make the whole network as "safe" as some demand, especially when they try to compare the #fediverse to platforms like old #Xitter.
I'm surprised to see so many folks still post links to X/twitter threads. (not common here but on other platforms/forums)
They obviously don't care about moral/ethical issues with X, but they also must not realize access to threaded replies is restricted to logged in users!
Many folks deleted their accounts long ago (🙋🏻♀️) & Nitter no longer works (right?) so I don't know how to see more than the first post of any X thread.
Have you ever thought about whether someone is blocking you, has blocked you or wants to block you?
Are you interested in such things?
Have you ever blocked someone here?
I haven't blocked anyone here yet...
It happened on #Xitter, I haven't blocked anyone here yet and I don't know if I've been blocked yet...😂
And hey this is not an invitation to troll me to block someone...😅 😂 🤣
I hate trolling !!!!
Friends, please start tagging your posts with content warnings. Otherwise I’m going to miss your messages as I indiscriminately mute and block you for being indiscriminate outrage posters.
