Court upholds B.C.'s COVID-19 health-care vaccine mandate

Province continues to maintain vaccine requirement for health-care workers

around 1,800 workers lost their jobs for being unvaccinated

The Judge found the provincial health officer's mandates were reasonable in light of

scientific evidence at the time.

Here's my plan for the in the age of streaming. Keep as is. Keep the news. becomes the home for funding new video; the produces videos in house and CBC TV becomes the distributer.

as is; as is; CBC News as is [0]; TV as a repertory broadcaster, more like ; CBC Internet as a repository of Canadian taxpayer-subsidised videos.

No more direct competition with private networks for viewers and advertising; no more US game shows; no more CBC Sports; no quest to create a new hit show that also vaunts the Canadian identity.

[0] Maybe a few minutes on the hour every hour on CBC TV, similar to CBC Radio?

This is not cheering for the pay workers get at Chinese EV manufacturing companies or the supply chains etc but the fact that North American car companies have made zero moves to make simple, low cost EVs is pathetic. “Flood the market” blah blah blah. There’s no free market anyway just protectionism, government subsidies and the gatekeeping to keep EVs at $50,000 a piece. Say nothing of the song and dance about getting folks into EVs

grivettcarnac,
@grivettcarnac@mstdn.social avatar

I guess this is also necessary for the demonization of China by conservatives and the oil and gas sector essential to sell the bit that what does on doesn’t matter globally. I’m not cheering for China or their business practices or whatever but the EV market in this country is a fucking joke. My only hope is that perpetual high EV prices force the conversation

This chart shows annual hours of smoke-filled skies in Calgary from 1953 to 2023.

As the first wildfire smoke of the 2024 season blew into the city this week, it's hard to convey the sadness it elicited in a lot of folks here.

There's a growing realization this is our new reality. And a genuine sense of mourning.

It is beyond wild to me that the city cut annual funding to the Tulip Festival. Ya’ll are baffled on how to connect Dows Lake and the Byward Market?? Seriously?? The NCC couldn’t even close all of the QED, but no shade to them when they are responsible for any livability in #ottawa The festival weekends at Dows Lake are the best weekends in this city in the entire year and props to the Feds #onpoli #cdnpoli

The kid and I spent every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday last year during the festival. We watched the movies, we walked on the QED, drank lemonade and just enjoyed the space without having to listen to or be around people driving. And then this all goes away without a thought. The 6-8 seater golf carts go away, all the people walking and biking have to be squeezed back onto the worst section of MUP in the city

Canada Post loses $750M. Taxpayers may be on the hook
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/canada-post-bleeding-money-will-need-big-change

"During the 2015 election, the Liberals promised to end a Canada Post program, which was then underway, converting addresses from door-to-door home delivery to community mailboxes." A bad — but politically popular — decision of the Trudeau ministry.

For more radical change, @acoyne proposed many years ago that we give to the postal union and let them find solutions.

First it’s very funny to state Canada has a pandemic plan. Second the fact that the system of food production isnt even of question but that of “how fast can governments help fund for profit creation of vaccines” isn’t surprising. There’s been a steady drip of H5N1 news about the levels of acceptable panic, but with basic transmissible infections like whooping cough spreading, I feel like optimism is just bullshit https://apple.news/ALiMWGdUQQxy0nK-NEj0ppg
