I must have penned 100 of these by now as I move around the fediverse week to week and sometimes day to day. Anyway here it goes again...
I'm a #Nintendo fangirl. My first console was the #NES and I've been in love ever since. The #N64 being my favorite console of all time with games like Goldeneye, Mario 64, and #Zelda Ocarina of Time being some of the best games ever made. I know most people had a PlayStation then, but I was always a Nintendo girl.
I watch #horror#movies consistently, and sometimes it feels like I've seen the entire genre. Out of nowhere someone will recommend me a film I hadn't seen, and I'll love it. Routinely makes the genre surprise me in a good way. It's gotten to the point that if it's not a horror film I probably won't watch it.
I like to read, and again, with a slant to horror. #StephenKing being my favorite author ever since I read The Shining as a young teen. #Fantasy, especially #Tolkien, is another fixation. I did see the #LotR movies before I read the books, so I'm probably not as cool as you.
If you don't love #birds we probably can't be friends. I've been bird obsessed for going on 6 years now. Ever since a house sparrow couple decided to nest in my garage I've become a bird nerd. Honestly I don't think it would be possible for me to love anything more than our feathered friends, and it shatters my heart every time I read about #climatechange decimating bird populations. Birds are better than people, full stop.
#Retrocomputing and #nostalgia are another side hobby. Content around the retrotechisphere is certainly in my orbit. I grew up with i386 processors and 9600baud modems in my veins. I would hangout in chatrooms on #BBS servers until 2am (my mom HATED it).
That's basically me minus all the neurodivergency causing disasters in my life, but I'm not here to trauma dump. As long as I have an #Android phone and a Nintendo console I'll be happy.
So I'm going to assume Netlify isn't going to suddenly charge me the cost of a small house if something goes awry and stick with them for the time being.
Also ooo, they're launching a new shiny. Blobs? Can I finally code up a working hit counter?
In 1985, Madonna released "Material Girl" and "Into the Groove," played the title role in "Desperately Seeking Susan," toured North America (supported by the Beastie Boys) and performed at Live Aid. But writer and fan Justin Myers holds the year dear for another reason: his abiding love for "Dress You Up." For his Guyliner Substack, he reappraises the song, which was the final release from the "Like a Virgin" album, calling it, "a celebration of sex, itself dressed up as something else to both appease the censors calling her the devil incarnate and provoke them at the same time."
We've selected and cleaned up 2 beautiful PCs from around 1998 for rental to the TV production house. 🤩 (* We noticed and straightened the covers of the 5.25'' slots after taking the photos 😎)
⬛📦 Our NeXTstation Turbo lives! 😍 The screen needs some repair because it displays a very dark image with some lines at the top, but the system boots up nicely. An impressive beast from 1990 with 32 MB of RAM!
Under foreverism, nothing can ever die. Franchises need to go on forever to maximize corporate profits and political ideas drawing on the past define our discourse.
On #TechWontSaveUs, I spoke to Grafton Tanner to discuss the consequences of companies and politicians leveraging nostalgia for their own gain.
