USA sends mobile phone usage data to , which T-Mobile acquired in 2019.
T-Mobile assigns a unique ad ID to your cellphone and gathers app usage data.
To opt out and remove all data of you, there's an app - "magenta advertisements platform".

For me it's horrible that they do so without telling and that the app is somewhere hidden - no one would come up with that name!

For (I don't know whether they do it on iOS, too):

Some of the top wireless carriers in the U.S. have been fined millions of dollars, for illegally sharing customers’ personal data without their consent.

AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have all received government fines following allegations by the FCC that they had “improperly shared users’ geolocation histories to third parties, including to prisons, as part of their commercial programs.” @CNN has more.

This should be jail time. For everyone involved from management. Otherwise absolutely, literally, fundamentally nothing will change. https://www.theverge.com/2024/4/29/24144599/fcc-fine-att-sprint-verizon-t-mobile-location-data

Do not, under any circumstances, sign up with T-Mobile if you can avoid it. After 15 (yes, you read that right FIFTEEN) years of continuous service with them I had to switch carriers because their network is unusable in my new home, and now they're trying to squeeze a final $100 out of me with some bullshit billing, after they lied to me on the phone and told me what my final bill amount would be.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

Aaand they can't resolve it over the phone because I don't remember a PIN that I supposedly set up 15 years ago (surprise) so I have to go into the store and yell at some poor retail bastards to try to get it resolved.

My guess is they're going to end up refusing to lower it because apparently 15 years of customer loyalty is worth less than $100 to them.

Another note: the latest crop of routers from them have the MediaTek T-750 chip, which has 2CA NR in both directions (vs. the first 3 5G modems that used the Qualcomm X55, which can't do NR CA).

At this point, T-Mobile has 2CA basically everywhere (n71+n41 at least), and n41+n41 in a bunch of places, so the newer modems, contrary to their paperwork, should provide more capacity/higher peak speeds than the old ones in most markets. Particularly with this week's n41 widenings.

ian, to tmobile
@ian@phpc.social avatar

update: has dropped 2.5 GHz (Band 41) entirely in a number of markets, including Austin, widening n41 by the same amount. I think the switchover happened at ~9:20am this morning as a friend briefly lost connectivity right around then (probably cell site reboot), prompting me to look at my phone's field test.

I found a sweet, sweet 100 + 80 MHz of live, which is well above what or can bring online with right now.

750 Mbps indoors at home FTW!

Software update? That sounds like bullsh*t.

This impacted not only AT&T but also Verizon and T-Mobile. It went well beyond America and into Canada.

It wasn't just in network, but also out of network too.

In network = Verizon to Verizon

Out of network = T-Mobile to Verizon or AT&T

Is ATT now managing Verizon and T-Mobile? And both in the USA and Canada? 🤔

More questions than answers.

If you have a account, you should turn on SIM protection to prevent criminals from stealing your phone number in order to empty your bank accounts, etc. https://clark.com/cell-phones/t-mobile-sim-protection/

It's in your T-Mobile Account under Security settings. Only the account owner can turn it on, but they can turn it on for everyone in that account.

The 1 problem about T-Mobile Home Internet is all the idea places to place their gateway (their modem / router combo unit), would ultimately mean either moving or mistakenly bumping into the unit.

That, ultimately, causes a change in the signal I receive.

All the places I can think of that would keep their gateway stationary away from anyone, avoiding any issue, is not likely good for the unity to receive the best signal.
