If this happens, will it be a mass exodus to Linux/Mac? Or will people just live with it? The fact that the Steam Deck has shown great promise in playing games on Linux has made me reconsider Windows yet again.
Today, I'm setting up a #Windows11 device for the first time. So far, my desktop icons are checkboxes, mnemonics in the Win+X menu are announced in a nonsensical way that includes the Alt key, I hear an ad for the Glastonbury Festival each time I open the Start Menu, and I've twice lost audio after a reboot. #accessibility
📰 "Korzystanie z systemu #Windows w dzisiejszych czasach oznacza znoszenie wielu, wielu zachęt do korzystania i kupowania innych produktów firmy #Microsoft.
Osoby mieszkające w Europejskim Obszarze Gospodarczym (#EOG) - który obejmuje #UE i dodaje Islandię, Liechtenstein i Norwegię — wkrótce zmniejszą nachalność w swoich systemach #Windows11.
Having an AI ("Windows Recall" is enabled by default) that tracks every move you do on your computer and of course has no filter (Microsoft's own FAQ clearly states it will remember every password you type) is idiotic. But Tech bros are frothing at the mouth for anything AI so here we are.
What if you could own a stylus enabled Windows 11 Laptop, that was ALSO a Linux PC, and it was ALSO an Android tablet, and it cost less than an iPad Air (with keyboard), but had twice as much storage as the iPad AND you could upgrade its SSD when you needed more space?
Microsoft will Windows 11 komplett in die Cloud verlagern

So, I finally got around to installing #windows11 Professional Edition in a virtual machine and chose the lightest options possible throughout the install process. It still forces 7 apps into the pinned apps portion of the start menu which were completely unsolicited. They can be uninstalled, but still...
Did I mention this was the Professional Edition?
On a good note, the UI strikes the perfect balance between #kde and #cinnamon. We could use a desktop environment like this in #linux.
I own a #SurfacePro 7 and a #SurfaceGo. Both don't support #Windows11 and therefore will be trash in October 2025 if you ask Microsoft.
Anybody has tried #ArchLinux or any other #Linux distro on these devices? What hardware is supported and which isn't (I can go w/o the touch screen, but Wifi/Bluetooth/Touchpad/etc should be usable)?
My Acer Aspire One 722 from around 2012 runs current #Arch just fine...
Weird functional regression on Windows 11—I seem to have lost the ability to set distinctive wallpaper for each virtual desktop. I had four desktops on my Surface Laptop Go until I reset it a couple of weeks ago; same thing for my Surface Go that I reset and started using again this past weekend. Now, on both machines, changing any of them changes all of them.
