@clive If you are writing about ebikes I'm sure you know that outsell non-ebikes in The Netherlands. In 2022, 486,000 of 855,000 new bikes sold were electric: hundreds of thousands of cargo delivery bikes, family bikes, and everyday get-around-the-city bikes.

If ebikes make sense to people using flat, safe roads, surely they make even more sense to use on the hilly, car-clogged streets in the rest of the world.

E-BIKE owners!! Did you know?

Let your batteries warm up for a while before charging them. Charging a lithium ion battery when it's close to or below freezing will damage it, permanently reducing its capacity.

It's so relaxing to bike in the , because, on busy roads, bike traffic is separated, and on city streets I can trust that people who drive are alert and follow the rules (look up presumed liability).

In the US, I wonder if I should make a version of this video for myself in the cities I bike in.

I love getting places by : the air, the beauty, using my body to move, interesting things all around me.

I've been biking them for 2 years and just learned a new word -- and a new program. H/T @modacitylife

Doorfietsroutes, thru bike paths, are smoothly aligned regional connectors between cities. Fun for tourists. Essential for adaptation.

Regional requires incredibly hard political and engineering cooperation.

Province already has 150km (93m) of a planned 1500km system. built 146km just in 2023.

What kinds of roads we choose to build (and for whom we build them) is relevant to creating a future we can thrive in.

Back in the , Metro planner Robert Spurlock calculated a complete linked 1,000 MILE network of low-impact regional walk/bike trails would cost $500M. That's half the cost of expanding a mile of I-5 freeway. Admittedly that's just for 3-meter ribbons of asphalt, not beautiful Dutch fietspad with complex crossings and community input.

But we have to make choices now.

I tested out tons of bikes this weekend at @cargobikefest -- It's exciting how much this industry is evolving.

Three were outstanding to both pedal and be a passenger in. Two others had noteworthy cargo / logistics innovations.

So much to look forward to in the !

golo.bike is chainless! It is a very smooth ride, does tight turns, and is fun for both riding in and pedaling -- though it is intended as a freight vehicle. The bike uses a linear hybrid drive system, removing the chains and gearing system and replacing it with just a generator at the crank and motors in the rear hubs.
NÜWIEL.de is an electric trailer with sensors that automatically accelerate and brake with a millisecond precision. The eTrailer can hook on to any bicycle, feels incredibly light when you move it, and works as an electric handcart in pedestrian zones. The Royal Mail is a pedaled mini-truck and probably the most popular vechicle to demo at the festival. UK-based https://www.ridezoomo.com/ brought this easy to drive mini-truck/bike to the festival, along with a few other fun light vehicles. Tell me again, why do we need cars in cities?

At every #Portland City Council meeting, @bikeloudpdx volunteers have made it a priority to have one person give public testimony. It provides a little education to the Council and a lot of passion to open their hearts.

On my way from NYC to PDX via @amtrak

3 days, 3 nights on the

Big bonus, the Moynihan Train Station has, since June, had a direct connection to the Park for a nice pre-trip walk.

This is maybe my 15th trip across the US by train. I've enjoyed it every time!

Why are people driving becoming more deadly?

Very well written long article about how the US establishment is moving towards seeing serious injuries and deaths as a public health crisis -- and why people who are distracted and distressed are not people who should be driving cars.

Here's what I learned:

3.7% of 's population lives in an

LTNs use signs, planters, bollards, cameras to reduce cut-thru

Most people who live in an LTN don't know it

In #Utrecht I live in a dense neighborhood in an apartment building, surrounded by other apartment buildings. It is always quiet because most everyone travels by #bike

Being outside, hearing #birds, kids, people, seeing my neighbors while walking and biking makes me calmer and happier. My blood pressure is getting lower.
