The press could tell an accurate story about how Biden's 50 yrs of legislative experience helped him pass huge infra & green energy bills through a 50-50 Senate that contributed to a robust recovery. The feedback loop of a million stories about his age leading to a million stories about polls showing that voters to worry about his age was an editorial choice.

Two things are true:

There's been an explosion of really vile , some coming from pro-Palestinian protesters. It's terrifying.

Calls for a ceasefire and condemnation of Palestinian civilian deaths are being labeled antisemitism, even when they come from Jews. It's slanderous.

These things feed into each other.

It's a terrible time to be a pro-Palestinian, anti-occupation Jew. We're really getting hit from all sides right now.

They worry that boys might become violent if they lost to some girls. So of course they kicked the girls out of the tournament. Pathetic.

"What we have worried about is a boys team losing to a girls team (especially in the year end tourney), they may get frustrated and retaliate against a girl."

American cops set a new record for killing people in 2023, with 1,329.

The number of people they've killed has increased in every year since the racial justice movement of 2020.

There were only 14 days without a police killing last year.

CT state troopers entered up to 60K fake tickets, issued to imaginary white people, to game a database designed to ferret out racial profiling. (And didn't enter real tickets issued to Black people.) One in 4 troopers were doing it. And it seems like nobody is being punished for this crime.

I had no idea from the coverage that this was such a resounding win.

"The settlement was a resounding victory for the parents and LGBTQ advocacy groups who filed the lawsuit. It dramatically limits the law's application to a narrow set of circumstances that seldom occur in K-12 public schools."

This AP story about the arrest of a Texas woman who threatened Judge Chutkan omitted the fact that she called the judge, who is Black, a “dumb slave” and the N-word. They seem really invested in downplaying this belligerent extremism that’s so pervasive on the right—even in a story about someone making death threats. https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-tanya-chutkan-judge-threats-texas-7d90ad3c8b552b49e269a3f842a6700c

The big story should be that a Republican prosecutor didn’t find grounds to charge Biden and inserted gratuitous commentary that aligns with GOP talking-points during an election year in an attempt to influence the outcome. That should really be a huge scandal.

Guessing that's not quite the rally-around-the-flag effect he was hoping for.

These outlets all have editors who are old enough to remember Biden being famously “gaff-prone” in his 30s and 40s. There’s no excuse for this. It’s her emails all over again.

They’re making it a profound issue by choice. They’re choosing to make it rise to the center of the campaign.

They could choose to make Trump’s consistent incoherence a profound and rising issue in the campaign but they choose to ignore or even edit his blather into linear form.

One can forcefully denounce the horrific attacks on civilians and reject claims that this was "completely unprovoked."

Relentless settler violence, attacks on Al Aqsa and hundreds of dead Palestinians don't get much coverage but all of that's put pressure on Hamas to act.

More to the point, bringing parties that represent the most extreme, violent and messianic factions of Israeli society into the governing coalition was all-but-guaranteed to result in a lot of bloodshed on both sides.

"Trump’s most fanatical followers have created a situation where...elected officials who dare defy the former president face serious threats...

This is a well reported piece but the framing is bizarre.

When a mob attacks a group of protesters under cover of darkness, they are not counter-protesting.

And as the reporting makes clear, they didn’t “provoke” violence, they perpetrated it as the cops and campus security stood by.
