It's strange, but I feel the overarching lesson of Twitter was "how snarkily funny can I be" whereas on Mastodon it's "how kind and generous can I be" and good lord I am so here for this change, even if it results in less clickbait and "engagement"

When someone really loves you, they delete all that ridiculous querystring nonsense from the end of the hyperlink before sending it to you. 💘

The Programmers' Credo, via the ineffable pinboard, Maciej Ceglowsi. Yes I had this bronzed myself. Twice, one for me, one for him. And we deserve every bit of it! 😉

"In General Electric’s annual report from 1953, the company bragged about how much it paid in taxes and how much it was spending on payroll. It explicitly said that “maximizing employment security is a prime company goal.” The founder of Johnson & Johnson said that the company’s responsibility to its employees was higher than its responsibility to its shareholders. Corporations then had a radically different conception of their role in society compared with corporations today." https://archive.is/66hPb

People say "decentralization doesn't work as good as the centralized facebooks and twitters", but then I post here on highly decentralized Mastodon a silly little joke about the commando character in the old video game Command & Conquer from 1995 and get a response from someone who worked on the original game! .. uh, maybe it is working already? https://infosec.exchange/@codinghorror/110646289254212237

Imagine you are given the opportunity to design an ideal society. You can structure it any way you want. Now, repeat the experiment, but this time there are two things to keep in mind: 1) after setting up the system, you will be reborn into the world you designed with no memory of having designed it, and 2) you will be randomly assigned a gender, race, age, wealth, intelligence, and ability level. This thought experiment was created by philosopher John Rawls (1921-2002).
