This trial hasn't even started yet, not one witness. Yet...

I'm getting Doomers galore in my feed.

A Trumpy helped convict him in an earlier trial.

The prosecutors are vetting the jurors carefully.

I am not Dooming. Not yet.

Can we wait for the trial to be in full swing before predicting the worst possible outcome? Or do people thrive on constant pessimism? I just don't.

The state of abortion rights in the U.S. unequivocally demonstrates that women are second class citizens. All the orange and tan states deny women autonomy over their own bodies, the most basic element of liberty. The federal government permits this. I’m angry and heavy-hearted.

This month, I’ve attended four hour-long webinars on Copilot and other LLM-based technologies and their potential knowledge-work applications, and it is v-e-r-y telling that not a single one has shown a single actual demo of an actual application.

Not a single response to a single prompt.

Not even a pre-recorded snippet that they were certain didn’t go wrong.

All these red states are now boasting about how they are withdrawing from the American Library Association. They aren’t just satisfied with banning books, they want to get rid of the places that keep and lend them, too. The Christian Right is on the march.

Carl Sagan once warned us of the “dumbing down” of America. He warned of a time when our “critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...”

That time is upon us. We must do all we can to prevent that darkness from taking hold.
