You'd think that the US would get tired of the FU from Netanyahu..he wants war, he is a pox on the planet but not on the arms manufacturers.

slcw,
@slcw@newsie.social avatar

@fluffykittycat Israel isn't the problem. It's Netanyahu and his Likud party who are to blame. Israel is a country that has been captured by a violent, far-right party that consistently escalates conflicts rather than deal strategically with its adversaries. They basically believe they can shoot their way to peace, which is an absurd notion. Maybe US aid should be contingent on Netanyahu stepping down, and new elections being held. A leadership change is needed.

It's still a welcome, considering the already escalated situation, wherein, China is just waiting for the , and its allies, to make a mistake. We definitely need every protection there is right now.

My question is, since I'm not knowledgeable with the Typhon system, would it have been better if they deployed it in a different region instead of near Taiwan? I mean, as far as protection it can give goes.

Then again, the US government's intent is always more than two, and one of it is to “protect” . It isn't so much for the Philippines only.

Runyan50,
@Runyan50@newsie.social avatar

@youronlyone @pilipinas @philippines @thejapantimes This only speculation, but it seems this placement in the Philippines keeps China on their back foot regarding the Spratleys. If they use real violence against a ship there, they will be attacked by both subsonic and supersonic missiles simultaneously. Those missiles could be fired by the Navy, but this ostentatious placement by the Army is a line in the sand so to speak. The Tomahawk’s ability to hit the Chinese mainland is a bonus.

More than 14,000 people have been killed and more than 8 million refugees have fled since April 15, 2023, according to estimates, but the death toll could be much higher. NPR has more about the brutal war and Russia’s involvement.
