It's really quite fun of the #Catholic types that, from the remotest First Nation of Canada, to Ireland, to Australia, to the gigantic continent of Africa, to every American state, North or South, you can count on them to relentlessly:
Discover pedophilia
Let it continue
Commit to covering up the pedophilia on a bewildering international and decades long scale, instead of anything else
Catholics love sex abuse, sure, but they love conspiracy to protect it more
I'm setting up an iPhone for a blind student that listens to radio station from her home country of Benin in Africa.
I'm having trouble finding an accessible radio app with a variety of stations from Benin. She is expecially interested in christian catholic content.
V Radio, an accessible app has the stations on android but is missing them on IOS.
An additional issue is that she doesn't have a credit card. So apps with constant full screen adds that are hard to dismiss with voiceover and have a subscription based add removal plan are problematic. A single payment is OK, I think I'll be able to gift her the app that way.
A website with good accessibility will also be good.
Greg Olear gathers his postings about Supreme Court kingmaker Leonard Leo, a "radical Catholic" who belongs to the exclusive (and very right-wing) Catholic club Knights of Malta, and the secretive, powerful, wealthy, theocratic Catholic cult Opus Dei.
The term "radical Catholic" is Olear's. Olear was raised Catholic.
This gathering of pieces Olear has written about Leo is very informative.
"Catholics United for Life became one of the country’s most vocal anti-abortion groups, protesting outside of clinics and operating a pro-life printing press. But it’s now the subject of multiple lawsuits and former members of the community say sexual abuse and violence permeated their lives."
#MAGA -> "The Founding Fathers intended for this to be a Christian nation!"
#BenjaminFranklin (after surviving a shipwreck) -> "Were I a Roman #Catholic perhaps I should on this occasion vow to build a chapel to some saint, but as I am not, if I were to vow at all, it should be to build a light-house."
A new PBS documentary, “Teilhard: Visionary Scientist,” premiered this month. Paleontologist, theologian, and mystic Pierre Teilhard de Chardin tried to be a faithful son of the Church and a faithful scientist as he brought both those together. Challenged during his life (and after), refused permission to publish, rehabilitated by recent popes.
In case we need reminding that a huge source of opposition to attempts to reform the Catholic church, especially under the current pope, is right-wing Catholic megadollars in the US.
Loup Besmond de Senneville reports on a secret meeting of Catholic bishops and cardinals that took place at a posh hotel in Prague in September, ostensibly to organize against the bogus threat of "gender ideology."
Anyone who has followed the abuse horror show in the Catholic church for any period of time — abuse plus colossal cover-up — knows this predictable plotline now:
Push a diocese to disclose ALL the names of priests credibly accused of abuse and to open ALL its secret cover-up files, and it will declare bankruptcy.
This happens over and over, with dioceses claiming they lack the resources to deal with abuse claims (almost never true). Now San Francisco…
Last week I saw dozens of planted stories on how some #Catholic convents and monasteries saved ~3k Jews during the #holocaust. This data is true but old news and has been known for years.
I was fairly certain a story was about to break that "the #Pope knew everything that was happening to the #Jewish people" story. Boy am I shocked!
I've included the new story and a Catholic damage control story.
"Newly discovered correspondence suggests that the second world war-era Pope Pius XII had detailed information from a trusted German Jesuit that up to 6,000 #Jews and Poles were being gassed each day in German-occupied #Poland. The documentation undercuts the #Vatican’s argument that it couldn’t verify diplomatic reports of #Nazi atrocities to denounce them."
"The number of people saved from the Nazis is also impressive: some 4,300 people are mentioned, 3,600 of whom can be identified by name. More than 3,200 of them were certainly Jews."
"A Roman Catholic priest in Alabama who fled to Europe with a recent high school graduate whom he met through his work has drawn scrutiny from law enforcement and been told to stop presenting himself in public as a cleric."
The story of Frank Docherty, a survivor of #SmyllumPark, an #orphanage run by a #Catholic order, who died before this week's conviction of two nuns and a care worker for child abuse. He spent 20 years trying to get justice, set up a charity for survivors, and helped discover a mass grave in an overgrown part of a #Lanark cemetery. His trauma is shared by so many others #crime #Scotland #children https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cljx8yny32wo
This poll is for #Catholic identified people, regardless of level of participation. If you were baptized as a baby, but don't attend parish services, you still count for this poll. #religion#Christian#Christianity
"Unfortunately, we have gotten to a point of no return. It's sad, but that's what it is. Global warming is a serious problem," Francis replied. "Climate change at this moment is a road to death."
@pvonhellermannn All Catholics, and actually Christians in general too, should read his Enzyklika laudato si. You can agree or not with the Church’s position on many issues but that paper produced by Francis is accurate in its evaluation of the current state of our planet.

Letter from church source in anti-Hitler resistance reporting 6,000 daily killings undercuts Vatican’s claims of lack of knowledge
