Got off my call with Reddit just now about the API. Bad news unless I come up with 20 million dollars (not joking). Appreciate boosts. https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/

@gracjan @fishcharlie @christianselig I recently started using on first interaction it seems better than , certainly has better integration with other Fedi group platforms, like Friendica Forums, Lemmy communities, Gup.pe groups, etc.in addition to their native "Magazines" @realcaseyrollins

gracjan,

@fishcharlie @christianselig There’s a alternative that’s a part of the (just how Mastodon is). It’s called . Maybe people can move to that. 🤔 https://join-lemmy.org

@christianselig sooo... its time for a hype?

@christianselig How about create Apollo instance of this: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy and do what @tapbots team did 😁

Reddit is totally pulling a Twitter.

I'd say a Reddit client is at least technically possible, unlike Twitter, but pricing would have to be around $10/month which really reduces the # of users that would be willing to pay to where it may just not be financially viable.

Cappyjax,
@Cappyjax@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig hope it brings more people over to instances, a fediverse compatible alternative to reddit.

heckler, to fediverse in How would your perfect fediverse software be like?

@Veritas Ohhh a wordpress like program you can easily install on any php web hosting provider for personal use, I don't know why so many software (, , , ) missed the mark and went with ruby elixir and the like, I bet those are the languages devs are familiar with
I am confident many software could be refactored into php code (friendica and hubzilla already exist) and it could really help speed up growth and make some people feel in control of their data.

Just a reminder that @fediversenews is not your personal boosting service. Banned the second person in less than a week due to this behaviour.

maegul,

@informapirata @atomicpoet @fediversenews communities also provide moderation facilities like this.

Setting up a instance. Still trying to figure out how it works, federation seems not to work for now.

But for those who would like a replacement in the Fediverse, you can give it a try:

https://lemmy.world

tyil,

@ruud I've been looking into hosting a instance too, will you document your adventures and any hurdles you found and how you solved them?

js, to random

Is there a federated Reddit alternative yet that is getting traction? With Reddit following Twitter, now might be the time for a migration :).

publicvoit,
@publicvoit@graz.social avatar

@js I'm a big fan of a revival for the with . Ticks all the boxes for me, proven, tons of great clients, ...

Wrote and talked about that on https://karl-voit.at/2020/10/23/avoid-web-forums/

caos, to fediverse in Looking for an entry to the Fediverse that's made for a single user. Preferably Reddit/Lemmy-like.

@butter Most software in the Fediverse is not topic-centred like , but account-centred.
The best known alternative to Lemmy would probably be Kbin . According to , there are Moontree, Lotide and brutalinks, which is from @mariusor

realcaseyrollins,

@BentiGorlich @technology Yeah...but custom emojis don't federate on all compatible software either, so isn't alone in this

kainoa, to random

Despite having worked with the Misskey codebase for almost a year and a half at this point, there's still so much I don't know about it. It's a massive project filled with years of legacy code... it's a weird feeling. Excited to scrap the old backend and start fresh.

maegul,

@kainoa @gustafsson Huh ... nice!

When it ships, that'll make two fediverse platforms (that I know of) written in rust: calckey + . Interestingly high representation I'd say.

Reddit may force Apollo and third-party clients to shut down, asking for $20M per year API fee https://9to5mac.com/2023/05/31/reddit-may-force-apollo-and-third-party-clients-to-shut-down/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

I've got 13 identities set up now. This sort of thing is great exercise for keeping my knowledge fresh, especially when I'm having to fiddle with everything on an airgapped machine. I also went ahead and updated my master key and subkey expirations while I was at it. By 2025, the keypair will have officially been in use for a decade.

Jae, to fediverse

Sure, I primarily use [albeit not the mastodon dot social instance or anything like it], but I still love things like and quite a lot.

If you like the more concise and peaceful conversations this side of the web, you should ABSOLUTELY give these other options a look!

Can anyone tell me how to follow a instance like Lemmy.ml from within ? Can you post/comment from a Mast account without a Lemmy account?

I need to stop giving Reddit any views and clicks.

Forcen, to fediverse
@Forcen@raru.re avatar

The @privacyguides subreddit is dipping their toes into the fediverse now that reddit is going to shit. They are now hosting a @LemmyDev instance on https://lemmy.one/ so I decided to join it.

Lemmy is a federated alternative to reddit so it would work similarly in that you can follow other subs even on different websites. (even on mastodon maybe: @privacyguides)
You can comment on posts just using your mastodon account at the very least: https://lemmy.one/c/privacyguides

The instance has restricted creation new subs but they are open to letting other open up if you want to join: https://lemmy.one/post/41

I'm looking for reddit alternatives for the following topics:

  • Trans stuff (r/traa, r/egg_irl)
  • Visual Novels
  • Fiction writing
  • Cyberpunk and SciFi in general
  • Anti capitalism
  • Programming

Boosts welcome! :boost_ok:

I'm legit sad about the news out of surrounding their API pricing. @christianselig has built the only interface for Reddit that a lot of users will ever willingly use. I hope a fedi alternative (I’ve seen posts about , need to check it out) can scale up fast enough, the way Mastodon did, to fill that void for folks.

jo, to fediverse

cavemeat, to fediverse

Reddit is undergoing enshittification, so I've set a course straight for the fediverse. I'm moving to Lemmy for most of my reddit-related posting, so nothing changes here, but I wanted to give lemmy a shoutout nonetheless
