I've been asked an interesting question yesterday that stumbled me first and made me think: which #museums do I like most?
There are certain topics that draw me in: Asian art, ancient history (and art), everything art nouveau & symbolism, old Dutch masters, design, Jewish stories, etc.
But what I like most is to learn something interesting and fascinating about something I did not know I was interested in before. To get my eyes opened to something.
This is pretty remarkable from a Swedish perspective. Moesgaard Museum is one of Denmark's two biggest archaeological museums. When they exhibit metal detector finds, they will sometimes invite the detectorist to a photo studio, take a really good portrait, and display it prominently along with the detectorist's name and her finds!
Some thoughts on the British Museum theft: first, I didn't talk to any of the (many) journalists who emailed me about it, partially because I was boarding a long haul flight. Mostly this was because last week there was not enough info to comment, and only enough info to speculate wildly. I'm not up for speculating wildly without facts. I can, however, now speak generally about a few things: 1/ #archaeology#artcrime#museum#museums@artcrime
In the era of alternative facts and news that is sometimes fake, often just proclaimed fake if unpalatable, we get a pro-Ukrainian propaganda exhibition at the Army Museum in Stockholm as ordered by politicians, and co-funded by the arms industry. A lot of inconvenient facts are omitted, such as Sweden's off-and-on alliance with Russia. 1/2
So it’s the 112th anniversary of Titanic sinking. As lights are turned off in Museums across Aotearoa let’s remember history is important. Let’s not sink our Museums..: #museums#newzealand

Sometimes I go to museums primarily for the architecture and photography ops.

At the @internetarchive a light blinks on their servers every time you use their collections. What a great way to visualise the impact of free access to knowledge. Do not take libraries, museums or archives for granted, we must defend them at all costs! https://www.battleforlibraries.com
Hello, Mastodon! May I introduce myself? I'm the Washington State Ski and Snowboard Museum, located east of #Seattle on I-90. My interests include #education, #skiing, #snowboarding, and #history. And, like most Washingtonians, coffee and Sasquatch.
Appeal: does anyone have any juicy photos of museum/collection textiles that I may use in a training session? (With credit, obviously.)
I'm after:
👔 packed/stored textiles (stored well or poorly, your choice!)
👚 examples of different types of historic and modern textiles
👗 examples of damage to textiles (stains, tears, pest nibbles, anything!)
🧶 identified fibres under a microscope
Los Angeles has a new museum and its focus is on slime. The Sloomooo Institute will have 13,000 square feet of installations including vibrant slime waterfalls, a DIY slime bar, and a Nickelodeon-style sliming station. Perhaps best of all, this is the museum's fifth location, so you can be pretty sure that the promotional images aren't generated by AI. Thrillist has more details.
Euronews's David Mouriquand has had it with "immersive exhibitions" — magnified replicas of paintings projected onto gallery walls. He says of the Van Gogh show he saw, "[It] made me want to forcibly shove fistfuls of sunflowers down my throat to make the experience end quicker," and describing the Klimt exhibition in Warsaw as "atrocious." Here's his no-holds-barred essay (read: rant) on the subject. What do you think of immersive exhibitions? Explain why in the comments.
