On July 15, 1944, in Bristol UK, the "Park Street Riot,” saw 400 Black soldiers confront 120 U.S. Military Police (MPs) over pub access. Observers later recounted that locals rooted for the Black troops. Like the Battle of Bamber Bridge a year earlier, this event underscored the racism Black troops faced as well as the disconnect between how they were treated overseas vs in their own country.

The Inside Story of How the Navy Spent Billions on the “Little Crappy Ship”
Littoral combat #ships were supposed to launch the #Navy into the future. Instead they broke down across the globe and many of their #weapons never worked.
Now the Navy is getting rid of them. One is less than five years old.

Activists are scattering flyers for #Gaza around downtown #Austin where #SXSW is held. Several musicians in particular have dropped out of official events over sponsorship by the US #military.
A protest is expected shortly in the area for a free #Palestine. Stay tuned. #SXSW24
"I think if you go back to the 1980s or 90s you don't actually hear about militaries... talking about information as a 'space' that they need to dominate. It's much more considered a kind of tool, or... even a weapon, but not up there with air, sea, land and space itself as a theatre of war."
The Israeli military has conducted missile strikes against Iran, a snr #UnitedStates#military ofcl told NPR Thurs. There are also reports of explosions in #Iraq & #Syria.
Iran's Fars News Agency says explosions were heard in the central city of #Isfahan, according to the Reuters News Agency.
The extent of Israel's strikes & the weapons used weren't clear.
#Russia is now at peak #military-industrial capacity, practically zero unemployment, pay hikes because not enough labour force to man the weapons factories. 35% of government spending go to military. 7.1% of GDP. All of it to go up in smoke in #Ukraine
However, if we look at the numbers, this output only matches current EU military spending. Countries which are on avg spending less than 2% on it currently.
Tell me again how Ukraine supported only by Europe can’t possibly win?
#America's least favorite #goober, Sen. Tommy #Tuberville, is completely #ignorant of what the #military is, what it does, how it operates, and what its #culture is all about. If you go outside right now and find a pile of #dogshit, that pile of dog shit knows more about our military than Sen. Tuberville. That's how ignorant he is. And when that ignorance combines with his epicly poor judgement, an unnecessary blockade on high-level #promotions is what results.
Any Canadian Historians on Mastodon? Trying to figure out what institute this crest belongs too. On my Uncles (Mom’s side) sweater circa 1947-1950 most likely around Montreal. Possible Vancouver area, but I don’t think he had moved yet. Possibly military. We have very little to go on, as “Bill” committed suicide in ’77, my Mom didn’t cope well, and burnt a lot of his family papers and never talked about him.
Someone needs to wack this goober with a waffle iron. It is the height of irresponsibility for a #Senator to block essential #military promotions because he doesn't like one of the military's policies. It's unthinkable that he would endanger the American military, and the nation in an attempt to force leaders to fulfill his irrational, ignorant, and narcissistic demands.
Come on, would defense contractor really orchestrate death between testimonies of whistleblower when individuals there could face financial & criminal consequences for things they testify about?
Suggesting it is ludicrous. Boeing would never have any part in killing a whistleblower. Literally last thing they’d do. No movies even about that sort of thing, total crazy fantasy.
Why #journalists and #humanitarian#aid workers assume they are safe to operate in a #war zone is beyond ignorant. Perhaps it's because they have never served in a #military?
If you are killed in a war zone, it's because you are in a war zone.
