I’m gonna dip my toes into volunteering as a Flatpak/Flathub developer advocate—basically, providing a human contact at a real company that can help larger apps/companies get their apps in front of Linux (and thus Steam Deck!) users.
What are some of the biggest apps you think are missing from Flathub—or for apps already there, which are the ones you’d like to see verified?
People who have or know someone who has a #SteamDeck...where do you or they use it most? I'm trying to understand better where most people are using it.
I'll keep saying it, because it keeps coming up. If you're working in the FreeDesktop, Linux, or Flatpak spaces, you need to understand this, even if you don't personally care about gaming or Steam Deck.
After a full month with my #Steam OS console, I can safely say that it's the best gaming experience I've ever had: start a game on the TV and pick it up later on the #SteamDeck, amazing performance + all the commodities of Steam OS!
And yet, I'd say it's not worth it for most people to build something like this, compared to a #Playstation5 for example.
So, let's see what I picked, the issues I encountered, and the general experience!
A question to the #steamdeck community : is there a recommended setting to run #baldursgate3 on it? One of my concerns is that the fans don't sound like a Boeing taking off.
A top-10 ISV has asked if Flathub can provide how many installs of their app are coming from Steam Deck users.
Today, we can’t—we’d need a change in Flatpak itself to add the OS name/version to the user-agent sent along with install/update transactions. The best we may be able to do today is see the exact versions of OSTree and Flatpak that are included in SteamOS, check if those are relatively unique, and provide a rough estimate based on that.
The Case of the Golden Idol.
My #SteamDeck is pretty much useless since I lent it out. Every game that's a bit more complex results in a reboot.
Wanted to play Fallout 4 again and despite the fact I reduced the graphics settings and the framerate to 40 after the first crash it still crashed three additional times in the character editor.
Pretty much every 3D game is unplayable since he had it for a few weeks. This is so frustrating.
I wonder if the Steam Deck is just not build for 3 user accounts. Or if some unknown power brick killed it. The Steam Deck is just such a weird device sometimes, it could be everything.
I probably should just reflash it with a clean version of Steam OS to start fresh. Maybe this will solve the problems.
I am interested in steamdeck but I have heard that it is really heavy if you are holding it for many hours.
Does this console worth it? Also how hot does it get in the summer if you are doing demanding things without AC?
I ditched my Steam Deck 4 months ago -- but I'm going back | Digital Trends (www-digitaltrends-com.cdn.ampproject.org)
About four months ago, I ditched my Steam Deck for Asus' ROG Ally. But with some distance, I'm going back to Valve's handheld. Here's why.
