Anyone interested in buying a Mergenthaler Linotype Company (Brooklyn) specimen book? (I have an extra!) The book is in pretty good shape with some of the red binding worn and some water staining on the bottom of pages. But the inside is in lovely shape and very easy on the eyes. Hardcover, prob from the 1930s. Ships from Canada 🇨🇦 -- I would love to see it in good hands.
This article is wild. If I’ve read this correctly businesses have benefited from #OpenStreets so much that competing businesses want them shut down because it’s perceived as an unfair advantage. Maybe we need to expand Open Streets? People enjoy spending time in places where they aren’t bombarded by car horns, noise, pollution and feel safe to bring their kids or dog. #brooklyn
"Today, they again tried to breach the front door with angle grinders and after a few moments they gave up and moved on to grind the lock off the bulkhead hatch to the basement. In the forty-year lineage of New York squatters, they were met with piss jugs emptied on them from the window. They gave up trying to force entry.
As I’m writing this friends from the local info-shop are laughing and talking around a grill and folding tables of food and drinks. Yesterday, squatters from a neighboring city played cards on the sidewalk before quickly linking arms to defend the doors from arriving goons. Old friends and squatmates have reconnected on the barricades and new connections have formed between comrades across subcultures and generations."
#art#history: she needs no introduction, but i would like to add an anecdote or two about the indelible mae west (born #otd in 1893).
she was an actress, yes, but she was also a writer - & she caused a bit of a scandal in 1927 with her play, 'the drag (a homosexual comedy in three acts)', about a closeted gay socialite, for which she cast gay actors. #maeWest#cinema#playwright#LGBTQ#actor#brooklyn

Kristina #Puzyreva, who has lived in #Montreal, pleaded guilty in federal court in #Brooklyn, N.Y., to money-laundering conspiracy for helping to send pieces used in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and guided missile systems in violation of export and sanctions laws.
I remade this YIPPEE #CCCFL (Cold Cathode Compact Fluorescent) bulb after it sold on Artsy, but then when I told the gallery it had broken #Artsy backed out of the sale. Hey they bought a different one in the end. Now I have a #YIPPEE bulb again.
The #purple phosphor is as evil as they come. Sooooo crackative, and with the chunky, tight font, basically every bend has to be perfect or it will break. Today an last night, I made about 10 of them to get this pumpable one.
This "autograph" book is over 100 years old and belonged to my grandmother who was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Most of the signatures are from high school classmates. It looks like she collected these from the age of 15 to about 22.
A fancy lil #video of the (mis) information arrow #neon beer sign #sculpture I made over the summer. This will be at View Arts Center in Old Forge NY starting December 2nd through March in the Northern Lights Exhibition.
The animating blacklight tubes blink like a rocket shooting. take aim :)
I have a few other "beer" sign ideas. I like the murdered out, #blacklight theme, but other colors are nice.
Just discovered one of my coworkers who drives to work actually gets here an hour early just to find a #parking spot. Says he just sits and waits for work to start. Claims to need a #car because the train takes too long. #carbrain#Brooklyn
