Latino voters are increasingly becoming a potentially decisive group as many find both parties faltering on key values such as the economy and crime.
“The party that is able to start building a lasting relationship with the emerging Latino vote is going to be the party that articulates an aspirational working-class agenda.” Mike Madrid.
👋 to all of my #trans & #LGTBQ friends. We need to talk about the cis-het progressive/liberal problem, and I hope that you might be able to help me get through to the ones in my life.
I spent a few days with some old friends that I haven't seen in a while. At one point, Jason Aldean and #TransRights both came up in conversation. These people are solid #Democratic voters that hate all things #MAGA. They also happen to be Jewish, which I would think should make them sensitive to #fascism.
They don't watch #FeauxNews or any other right wing bullshit. They do, however, consume #Facebook & #Instagram feeds daily. It was their impression that trans people are forcing other people to use pronouns and make special arrangements for them. They also think that people uncomfortable with trans people should be free to bunk at camp in a cabin without trans people in it.
I 💯% know and believe that #TransRightsAreHumanRights but how can I more effectively pierce their myopic bubble?
Yusef Salaam, one of five teenagers convicted in the 1989 Central Park jogger case, won a competitive #Democratic primary for a #Harlem City Council seat.
I've really enjoyed being part of social.coop and am itching for more sustainable services. I recently ported my Github repos over to #codeberg and been loving it. Appreciate any responses!
Sorry, but yes, this absolutely IS your father’s Republican Party. There’s a direct line from the GOP of Ronald Reagan to Donald Trump. None of this happened suddenly or by accident.
"Further proof (as if any were needed) that #JoeBiden is an out-of-touch, senile old man, endlessly living in a fantasy land of 1990s good-ol-boy Senate backslapping camaraderie, where everyone was always "My Colleague"
As is the rest of the upper #Democratic party hierarchy
Q. how do you balance the #infrastructure building needed for the #GreenTransition & local needs (views) articulated through the planning system?
Though there is a certain amount on NIMBYism in planning problems encountered by #nationalgrid's moves to upgrade the UK's #electricity distribution network, there is also a need to design facilities to better meet local's demands not to have their locality disfigured.
If we cannot answer this question in a #democratic manner, we're stuffed!
Probably worth noting the massive #Democratic Party outrage over the #HunterBiden plea deal that 100% does not exist because it's not a lunatic fucking cult of revanchist rednecks looking for excuses to murder people.
Sorry, I don't buy this BS. If so few Democrats want Biden to run in 2024, then where are all the candidates challenging him in the primaries? The GOP could fill a theater with all the people hoping to beat Donald Trump in the primaries, yet all we hear is how Trump is gonna be the nominee and everyone else is wasting their time.
Democracy was never meant to be run by election bc it is too easily corrupted by oligarchs.
It was always meant to be by sortition & there is a longer history to that & it's success, than this version of 'democratic' elections which is failing us & fallen to #oligarchs as was known & expected by Athenians.
Aristotle said #elections were aristocratic & we're seeing that right down to dynasties.
YouTube will stop removing false presidential #election fraud claims - The Verge
‘The ability to openly debate political ideas, even those that are controversial or based on disproven assumptions, is core to a functioning #democratic society.’ #electionfraud
"#President#Biden’s capacity to overperform after an onslaught of negative press and #Democratic hand-wringing is second to none. He did it with the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, NATO solidification and expansion, and now with the debt ceiling deal. It’s hard to conceive of an outcome more favorable to Biden..."
“Democracy depends on the informed (not misinformed) consent of the governed. By allowing the most economically and politically powerful people, corporations, and governments to control our attention, these systems will control us.” - Daniel C. Dennett
We're still learning details of the #DebtCeiling deal, but for now it looks like #Republicans basically won. They threatened to absolutely devastate the US economy unless the White House agreed to spending caps, funneling more of the food stamp budget to wealthy investors, hurting poor people, and being complicit in racial demagoguery ("welfare queen"-like #GOP propaganda). And the White House gave them all those things to a degree. https://apnews.com/article/debt-ceiling-deal-food-aid-student-loans-3c284b01d95f8e193bca8d873386400e
It's unsurprising that hurting the poor a litttle more wasn't a red line for #Biden, as he tends to do what's popular with donors and voters, and the portion of #Democratic donors and voters who understand the lives of the poor and make their welfare a top priority is very small.
Some poor people offered up as human sacrifice.. Biden called the deal "good news for the American people"
If you are of the opinion that the debt ceiling negotiations are progressing too quickly, too focused on policy over politics and don't spend enough time elevating the comms team / egos of unconstructive politicians, then this is a great development. https://www.axios.com/2023/05/27/scoop-sinema-enters-debt-ceiling-negotiations
Sen. "...#Sinema [#turncoat#Indep., AZ] trying to use her status as an independent senator — and her experience as a key vote in last year's #showdown over the legislation that became...Inflation Reduction Act — to find common ground...some #Democratic lawmakers are privately 👉concerned that her 11th-hour effort to save the day will water down key green energy provisions👈."
@juddlegum I like seeing #democratic processes weeding out bad governance around the world.
I really dislike #bigdata putting their grubby fingers into the pie
Today, May 14, 2023, is a that the future of the countries that border on the #BlackSea could be decided.
Why today, you might ask? Because today might be the last time #democratic#elections can be held in #Turkey to oust an increasingly authoritarian ruler (see today's posts.)
Ok, you might say, why? With over 350k men in its military, Turkey's armed forces...
Analysis: This is actually a #defeatist and #anti#democratic#statement that sets the scheme up for never being able to influence the rules of the game.
It’s anathema to what democracies are supposed to be about: Rewriting the rules of the game so it’s more fair and more just for an increasing amount of people.
And the most succesfull of them turn in a huge profit, because they increase amounts of win-win #games over win-lose & lose-lose.
#Democratic Rep. David Trone announced Thursday that he is jumping into #Maryland’s open #Senate race, and he signaled that he’s willing to spend his vast personal fortune on his campaign. #2024
