Compared to used car prices, unfortunately there are not many used cargo bikes. I think the cheapest new option would be like the unfinished project I'm riding, which is fine on small hills or if you don't mind working hard sometimes, top assist speed 15mph (+~$500 more = moar⚡)

If your EVs aren't selling maybe that's because you're making giant fucking trucks and SUVs and hyper-expensive luxury sedans and the kind of people who want EVs mostly just want a compact car for getting to work and running errands.
@tess The affordable, efficient, small #EV most people want is an #eBike and/or #cargoBikes which use 1/100th the amount of #lithium and other #carbon-intensive resources, costs less to own two #eBikes than one year of car expenses, don't have to give up your old gas car yet, no worries for #parking or grid-scale crisis about charging infrastructure. All we need are #transportation Engineers who don't fruitlessly waste every inch of city streets on cars, and some transit priority lanes instead.
I've had my cargo bike for about six months now. I thought I'd write a review of it, because (1) I love it, and (2) I had loads of questions before buying it, and thought I could help future cargo bike buyers.
First time we’ve gone riding together since before the pandemic! @glitter has been suffering from asthma for a long time and it has hindered her #cycling, until now! #ebike (1)
@mcc I want to see an #opensource#ebike conversion kit.
I don't know if that makes sense, because what market incentives would produce it? Well, somehow 3D printers exist. The Ender 3 (version 1) is open source and basically the AK-47 of 3D printers.
Maybe we should do that with ebikes. I can't think of too many examples of open hardware, but it feels like ebikes belong in this family.
Add that to the wishlist and throw in a RISC-V-based personal computer and I'm good to go.
"As currently written, HB 4103:
...would restrict some of the most affordable #eBike styles to [16yo and up]
...[allows localities to] ban the use of certain e-bikes from accessing multi-use paths and trails
...Enforcement based on e-bike class will be highly subjective and confusing for users
...Misses the mark on providing a clear definition... [cargo / 4 wheels, bigger motors]"
I know these #drivers were planning on tearing through the neighborhood like a herd of bulls in their debtwagons but, you see, I need to charge my #eBike battery here... ⌛
‘Unguided metal rocket’: Widow files lawsuit over fatal e-bike battery
The battery had been charging for several hours when it began to overcharge and overheat, according to the lawsuit. That's when the fire broke out.
This looks fun from Gocycle but has anyone got any data on what you could actually carry? Stated 'rider+luggage' weight is 220kg but it's not a rack design that looks like it'll take a huge load, and I can't see any max rack load on the website #cycling#BikeTooter#cargobike#ebike
This aligns pretty well with my experience not owning a #car and relying on a cargo #bike. Picking up kiddo from daycare, going grocery shopping, getting packages are all really nice to do on a cargo bike. Parking is easy and never getting stuck in traffic jams means I don't have to think about scheduling trips around traffic.
"What about bad weather?" yeah that is sometimes a bummer, but with rain gear its less of an issue than you think it is.
First ride with the e-kit on my foldie. I definitely missed some QC with my shifter and rear brakes, and possibly my front brakes. Something was making a loud motor sound, and I didnt hear that during air test, probably something catching on something, and I need to massively power it down. So much torque from the engine (didn't even bother with throttle, PAS set me up with way too much assist), but once I tweak this further this will be as sweet as I was hoping! #ebike#BikeTooter#progress
Woohoo my foldie is finally all back together, now with the ebike kit fully on! I'm going to charge up everything tonight and tomorrow take her on her first ride of '24 and first with the kit. Only took 3 months of sporadic piecemeal segments with long wait times for missing tools and research when I got stuck, or about 8 hours of actual work! My spouse is equally excited to have the project out of our living room! #biketooter#ebike
Just learned Bikes at Work makes trailers that attach to bikes, one of which is big enough it could carry an Urban Arrow if say, ours broke down on a ride somewhere and we needed to haul it home. That would be a lot easier than needing to immediately go rent a truck...
Anyone have one? Or know of other options I should consider? #BikeTooter#CargoBikes#UrbanArrow
Can everyone on #BikeTooter agree whether we're using the plural form or the singular form for hashtags? Or can Mastodon core give us a feature that enables smooshing hashtags together if one is the plural form of the other?
Sounds like a losing cause given they are so unpopular
E-scooter companies are going bankrupt. That should alarm you even if you hate them
Many of the most common e-scooter complaints are actually indictments of bad street design. And for all the annoyance the scooters inspire, cities would be far worse without them.
