Europe’s most important court has ruled that protection from climate change is a human right. The judgment will be put to the test in Britain by a climate change refugee who lost his cliff top home to sea erosion. Rising sea waters and increasingly violent storms, caused by melting ice and warmer oceans, are a special concern on Britain’s east coast. Special correspondent Malcolm Brabant reports

Massive invasive snakes are on the loose and spreading in Puerto Rico.

Vox reports: "Runaway pets — and possibly some zoo escapees — have fueled the spread of invasive snakes across the island. It’s an environmental catastrophe in the making."

A new study shows when global temperatures heat up 1 degree, there's 1 less week of snowpack. What does that mean for Flagstaff?

Less snowpack leads to higher wildfire risks and more localized warming

Crimson-speckled flunkey (Utetheisa pulchella) crimson-speckled footman, or crimson-speckled moth. Birds don’t like them as the caterpillars accumulate a large amount of alkaloids, toxic & unpalatable to birds. Which probably accounts for the colors, a warning sign. #moth #insects #biology #photo #nature #wildlife #science #ecology

It’s good staying at places with good book collections

“The ecological crisis we face is due largely to the way we see, or rather, the way we don't see the world around us. In the life of our Western developed culture we are often too busy, trav-elling too fast, and too distracted to pay the sort of attention that Francis gave to the created world. Like those of whom Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote in the middle of the nineteenth century, we are blind to the sacramental presence of what is before our eyes:

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God:
But only he who sees, takes off his shoes, The rest sit round it, and pluck blackberries.”

Central to this verdict was the Court’s decision to lift a ban on overhead power lines spanning 99,000 square kilometres in parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The ban aimed to protect these endangered birds but was deemed counterproductive to India’s transition to clean energy, particularly wind and solar power, which is crucial for global climate action and fulfilling the energy needs of Indian citizens
