I'm not even sure it would be possible to install a SuperCharger there. The whole town's current is probably only a few hundred kW - the existing probably does not have the excess for a single 150kW charger, much less a pair of them.

Would it be technically possible to gradually upgrade the grid in the USA from 110 V (60 Hz) to 230 V (50 Hz)?

Perhaps by mandating that all new installations should be able to handle a future switch? Or perhaps by going street by street, house by house, and switching it over?

Power has been restored! Apparently a wayward squirrel 🐿️ somehow shorted out a transformer two blocks away knocking out power to 83 homes. I'm sorry for his electrocution but thrilled Ameren (Union Electric if you're my age) is as good as they are at fixing problems.

1/34 This started out as a much shorter thread about a related topic, but Something Happened and now it's a thread on keeping your house comfortable and saving and the , through the magic of air movement. It's also timely, what with it being the start of the northern-hemisphere summer and southern-hemisphere winter.

cazabon,

7/34 First step you can take? Change the setting on your from "auto" to "on" (always on). With modern HVAC systems, the fan is generally pretty efficient; keeping it on uses some , but more on the heating or cooling demands, so it's a net .

Modern furnaces will commonly run their fan at a lower speed when not "on cycle", giving you enough air movement but using even less energy to do it.

"Scientists Find a Way to Harvest Clean Energy From Nothing But Air

Engineers have demonstrated something marvelous. Almost any material can be used to create a device that continuously harvests energy from humid air.

It's not a development that's ready for practical application, but it does, its creators say, transcend some of the limitations of other harvesters. All the material needs is to be pocked with nanopores less than 100 nanometers in diameter. That's around a thousandth of the width of a human hair, so easier said than done but far simpler than expected.

Such material can harvest the electricity generated by microscopic water droplets in humid air, according to a team led by engineer Xiaomeng Liu of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

They have called their discovery the "generic Air-gen effect"."

Engineers use nanotechnology to pull electricity from thin air?

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have discovered a method to harvest continuous electricity from air humidity. They say a device using their tech could be capable of delivering kilowatt-level power.

Not sure if this is a pipe dream or another one of those "good news if scalable" stories but the science seems cool!

The price of in has been quite something. Last summer it was climbing to €1000/MWh, now it's very often below zero during the day. Yes, you have to pay someone to consume it.

I'm glad I've got a home system primarily for environmental and self-sustainability reasons because any ROI calculation is basically impossible.

After cutting Russian power imports, Finland struggled with producing enough energy and citizens had to restrict their use. They have transformed their system so much that they're having to reduce output from nuclear stations. They aim to have wind power as the primary means of production by 2027.

Finland's average electricity price slips into negative territory.

The oversupply of virtually emissions-free electricity is mainly due to spring flooding, which is super-charging hydropower production.

Usually, negative prices occur at night for shorter periods of time, the novelty of the price dip comes from its length.

For consumers the subzero price means a really affordable price, even after transmission fees.

So I was ripping up, er, salvaging parts from, that old PC earlier today, and tonight I’ve found a use for the front usb ports.

Tada, my usb-powered camera no longer has a cord that hangs low, that wobbles to and fro. I had some extra amps, so I added the dual port USB to the breadboard.

Now it’s tucked away on the top shelf, where the spaghetti mess can’t be seen.

Every few years, a dodgy stat does the rounds claiming you can save £££ if you switch off all your gadgets at the wall. The standby mode of your TV is bleeding you dry!!!
