Yesterday, around 17:30UTC, the Danish long wave transmitter ‘Kalundborg’ stopped transmitting after 96years of service.
The MW transmitter was taken down and the tower was demolished 10 years ago, but the LW was kept operational at 50kW TX PWR, until yesterday.
An end of an era of almost 100 years AM broadcast in Denmark.
Driving to my friends New Year’s party, I listened to it in my car. Quality was amazing - I don’t think people of today realize how well this actually worked given the simplicity 🎵🙂
As an RF and radio enthusiast this was an emotional moment - I’m sure some of you will understand 🥲
The law prevents you from using the title Engineer to imply you are a member of certain professional organizations - APEGB in the story, or APEGS in my province - when you are not.
It is not in #violation of the #law to accurately describe yourself as an #Engineer by training or by occupation. There are legal precedents establishing this in Canada.
I had to fend off APEGS when they sent me a #nastygram regarding this, and had to learn the details.
Unless you have a disability, obviously, in how far should we support #innovation, and the use of #energy and #resources, just to avoid to have to get our lazy ass out of the car and, for instance, put gas in it?
I don't know if #lowtech is the answer... but promoting laziness definitely is NOT the way to go.
Sidenote: It may be useful, when building things, as an #engineer, to take one step back and ask yourself if your contribution is really an #innovation or just a thing that will replace some thing or some action that is perfectly fine without any smartass #technology.... and if this is worthy of your own #time, #energy and #brainpower
There’s just the one component, the LED. Visible through the clear plastic housing, there’s a small black dot, it’s the control chip which makes the LED flicker like a candle.
Measuring the light output with an external detector, it’s clear that while it’s ON most of the time, occasionally it turns off at a seemingly random pattern. And zooming in, it’s clear that it is pulse-width-modulated at different duty cycles, giving the visible effect of a real candle.
It’s actually really smart thought out - that little black chip is a lot more complicated than you’d initially imagine 🙂
My team is hiring a Software Engineer to work on @terraso
"Tech Matters is seeking a senior software engineer to help build the Terraso platform, an open source project delivering critical software tools to empower communities around the world to adopt sustainable practices addressing the climate change crisis and improving human welfare."
I feel like coming up with the most appropriate query to find papers (in my case, taking into account both the number of hits and the accuracy) in #academic search engines for a literature review is making me feel like an #AI#prompt#engineer ...
Rex Gonzales worked as an industrial #engineer & #ProjectManager for 16 years in the #Philippines. But he's struggled to find work in his field since moving to #Canada - despite applying for almost 100 #jobs.
#Bill38 - International Credentials Recognition Act, would #RemoveBarriers such as redundant language testing, as well as requirements that workers gain professional experience in Canada.
