Hi, I'm John. I work for UCSF in the Division of HIV, ID, and Global Medicine. I primarily work on #HIV projects in East #Africa, but also work on #COVID19 projects in #SanFrancisco. But my comments are only my own.
Everyone has to calibrate their anti-COVID precautions. Case reporting being unreliable and such, wastewater testing is the best way to know the current status. Here in the USA, the risk is dropping pretty consistently over the past few months.
This was a fascinating, illuminating, and enraging conversation with Dr Richard Denniss, Executive Director of The Australia Institute, and Professor Margaret Hellard, Deputy Director of the Burnet Institute, about why we're not collecting covid data, and why it matters. This one is really important, so please listen, and share.
RD:"Why aren't we collecting the data? Because they don't want to admit failure. They don't want to make it easy for me to tell you what the cost to GDP of this heroic approach to covid has been."
Posting this again. We’ll be reviewing applications at the end of May, so please let post-docs, research scientists, assistant professors (who might make a lateral move) in your networks know to get their applications in by May 15th, so we can be sure to include them in our deliberations. #epidemiology#publichealth#infectiousdiseases
I am feeling like I am one of the last remaining holdouts from the #Epiverse.
6 months ago most of the #Epidemiology leaders on social medial declared that twitter is a #DumpsterFire, and came on here declaring they would change the world.
Almost all have returned to twitter as if nothing had happened. It really just goes to show how useless people's opinions on social media are.
if a person's self-esteem is dependent on the likes in a dumpster fire, they should re-evaluate their life.
I'm super excited that later today at 10:30 Eastern Time I'll be speaking at the Data+Donuts series at Harvard Kennedy School about the Public Health Disparities Geocoding Project 2.0.
Among other things, I'll talk a little bit about the role the #tidycensus package and GIS software in R like #sf can serve in analyzing data to advance health justice.

Well crap, only 9 cases of Hyperglycemic Ketosis due to Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome #HKCHS in our population out of over one hundred Diabetic Ketoacidosis #DKA cases. Well, on second thought, either one sucks for the individual but I can't get good predictive models with nominal logistic regression and 9 outcomes.
There I thought we had a crack at understanding cannabis and #t1d in this dataset! Still, we can look at cannabis use as a predictor anyway! #Epidemiology
#introduction I'm a Post-doc working on mathematical and statistical model of malaria and COVID-19. I was actually trained as field marine ecologist, and only started picking up on my quantitative skills during my PhD in 2016, in which I drifted towards #infectious disease. Nevertheless, I love both #epidemiology and #ecology word, and hope to contribute to both domains using my #computational and #quantitative skills. I am #rstats enthusiast, but also speak #python and #cpp if I have to 😅
Hi Guys, here's a little #introduction about me 😊
I'm a public health doctor, academic & mum. British-Iraqi citizen of the 🌍 I'm passionate about my work & social justice (which I consider the same thing). I love nature, flowers, smiling, freedom & hope. Haven't changed in that respect since I was a kid (see 📷) but my personality strength is growth so I do change my mind on other things. I work on #LongCovid#HealthInequalities#Intersectionality #Epidemiology #EDI #Maternal#Child#Health
