#Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection w/a #HushMoney payment made to a porn star to influence the 2016 election. The case could be in the jury’s hands as early as Wed.
#Blanche says #jurors cannot trust those recordings, & they cannot rely on #MichaelCohen himself — which, the defense has said many times, is a reason not to #convict#Trump.
Blanche then listed 10 reasons that he believed the jury should have #ReasonableDoubt as to Trump’s #guilt. But the list was hard to follow. He misstated the 4th point, which he then broke into 3 parts. He gave them all equal weight & barely mentioned some of them in the rest of his summation.
I will be in #NYC at the #Alzheimer's Association to discuss "The Alzheimer's Journey: #Grief, #Guilt, #Memory, Love." It is a hybrid event (on line and in-person) that will take place on August 20th from 1 to 2 pm.
Our new article “Contrasting the semantic space of #shame and #guilt in English and Japanese”, co-authored with Emily Öhman, has been sent to the production team and is soon to appear in #Language and #Cognition 🧚♀️
In this article Sonia Boulos and Tamir Sorek discuss the policing of the use of the "Genocide" word.
"Abstract: Both societies, Israeli and Palestinian, harbor a collective trauma of annihilation and a national ethos of victimhood. While it is understandable that both sides see themselves as victims of genocidal acts in the current unprecedented wave of violence, when the term “genocide” is used in Western academia and public debates to describe the Israeli attack on Gaza, it is highly policed and is quickly associated with antisemitism. Considering that the Gaza Strip has lost almost one percent of its inhabitants while Israeli leaders use explicit annihilatory language, language policing surrounding genocide has become fatal for Palestinians."
When #Depression, #Anxiety, #Guilt & #LowSelfEsteem take over & I'm over-worked/whelmed, finding what's going on can be tricky. Doing my neighbor's yard while still having a 7-year health-related work backlog is the obvious reason. But last week was ok! Why more stress now? Well, even though I really enjoyed myself, the fact I dog-sat was one of many items that added to my weekly load even if it only involved feeding/playing once/day for 3 days. It was one of the double-edged swords this week.
Back in Berlin my daughter, 14, had the first sports lesson at a new school. Teacher, around 50, female, explained the dress code: No tight-fitting shorts, no wide necklines, girls with large "bust sizes" must wear a sports bra. Anything else would "irritate the boys". Daughter felt deeply unsettled and sexualised by that. At her Irish school last year the (male) sports teacher told the students "Your body belongs to you, you must feel comfortable."
There's a discussion going on in one of our group chats about being an #ImperfectActivist i.e. a recognition that we're all hypocrites, the you don't have to stop flying or become vegan to be a climate activist. Is that fear of being called out putting people off joining climate groups. What do you think?
@nellie_m@Parents4FutureUK yes, exactly. This has really impacted me. Like, for a few years i was merrily tweeting #NoFlying etc, because i stopped flying, but this year (for many reasons at once) i am flying and i realise i really might as well pack up as the #hypocrisy is so extremely unbearable. I talk a lot IRL about my #Guilt (to people who fly and don’t even think about it), so at least it’s been a good conversation starter. But here i feel i should stop everything
@dgar its when you open the fridge and see food you bought last grocery run that you now regret, and you consider buying new groceries but throwing out the old food seems wrong, so instead you get take-out and try to ignore the bad decision tree that lead here. #food#adulting#groceries#foodwaste#guilt
"She thus becomes the first person in history to get the legal system to hold Donald Trump to account. She certainly beat Merrick Garland to the punch. E. Jean Carroll, Trump grossly said you weren’t his type. We say with admiration that you are definitely ours."
