Just seen an article in the Guardian about fuel prices which mentions that the average price of #petrol is £139.7p a litre, the lowest level since Oct 2021.
Fellow Britons, you are being taken for a ride. In Thailand which has no oilfields, only natural gas and so has to import all its petrol, the price at the pump is about 84p.
As refining has been (in the past) a particular bottleneck in #petrol supply, the move for it to become an import processing plant for #LNG and also to some extent an exporter of LNG-derivitives, may shift the landscape of #energy distribution in the UK.
The Q. is whether this is a problem for 'energy security', a welcome kick towards the transition to #electricvehicles or just the consequence of foreign ownership?
This conference from #GreenSoftwareFoundation is so frustrating to watch... They only talk about carbon emissions. They completely ignore the human cost! It's not just about #CO2 emissions! We're reaching the point where we're running out of resources. We're running out of petrol, rare metals (lithium, cobalt, etc) required to make batteries. We're running out of farmable land, which will cause a food crisis and famines.
Once again, #oil prices are dropping but #petrol prices on the forecourt have failed to follow them.
The Competition & Markets Authority wants better price monitoring & on-line (real time) price comparison information to spur completion to lower margins... but interestingly this time the petrol refiners, who were fingered in the last 'petrol price crisis' seemed to have managed to avoid the blame.
so what's going on here?
Is it retail margins or are refiners managing to hide their profits?
The Modi Government Must Answer for its Exploitative Fuel Price Policy
The rise in Indian fuel price levels happened less due to geopolitical factors and more due to other reasons. In the end, the government and companies have benefited while consumers bear the brunt of high prices.
"#Sunak [says] he will push back a ban on selling new #petrol and #diesel cars from 2030 to 2035, dramatically slow down plans to phase out #GasBoilers, and reject calls to regulate #efficiency for homeowners.
The move intensifies Sunak’s newfound and controversial electoral strategy: binning Britain’s bolder emissions-cutting policies and picking fights with #climate activists, in a gamble that the confrontation will appeal to traditional Conservative voters."
Interesting discussion about electric vehicles. Be sure to read the comments.
"Increasingly, I’m feeling that our honeymoon with electric cars is coming to an end, and that’s no bad thing: we’re realising that a wider range of options need to be explored if we’re going to properly address the very serious environmental problems that our use of the motor car has created."
"#LONDON, #UnitedKingdom– Lloyd’s of #London underwriters are leading insurers in raising rates and cutting the amount of cover they offer for risks involving #Taiwan as concerns grow over possible military action by #China, industry sources with knowledge of the matter say."
On Thursday, #Russia suspended nearly all #diesel and #petrol exports in order to stabilise its internal markets. #Ukraine
The move was the result of internal shortages probably caused by short-term increases in demand from the agricultural sector, the annual summer maintenance of refineries and attractive prices for exports.
We already know that slow completion of network connections to the #nationalgrid is slowing the development & deployment of #renewableenergy production across the UK.
