Please remember to check and change the privacy settings whenever you download a new app!
Some (cough most) apps collect and share a lot of your data by default. And not only yours but the data of your contacts as well. That’s why you should opt out and restrict access wherever you can. For your own sake and for the sake of your contacts!

"Supermarkten die gezichtsherkenning willen inzetten om winkeldiefstal tegen te gaan of eigendommen en medewerkers te beschermen maken hierbij een forse inbreuk op de privacy van klanten, waarbij de privacy zwaarder weegt dan de private belangen van de supermarkt. Dat stelt de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) in een vandaag gepubliceerd juridisch kader over de inzet van gezichtsherkenning."

Headline: Hacked! Threat Actor Accessed Passwords and Phone Numbers

Snippet: A quick analysis revealed that a threat actor had broken in to access customer information such as emails, usernames, phone numbers and hashed passwords, as well as general account settings and certain authentication information (API keys, OAuth tokens, and multi-factor authentication).

Privacy Tip 3: Accessing the Internet

How we access the Internet is a matter of security. Other users on free Wi-Fi networks could use weaknesses to access your data.

Using a VPN encrypts your activity through a remote server.

The curious case of Ad-blockers

Advertisements, pervasive across the internet, not only disrupt user privacy and experience but also slow down browsing. Ad-blockers offer significant benefits such as enhanced privacy, reduced distractions, faster loading times, and bandwidth conservation. A new site feature now prompts visitors without ad-blockers to consider using them, enhancin

The browser you use to explore the Internet is an important choice when it comes to privacy in a world of surveillance capitalism.

Yet most asylum seekers and refugees who we surveyed with Positive Action in Housing weren’t aware of alternatives to Google. Google tracks online activity to amass a data profile of its users that can be sold to advertisers. Other browsers prioritise with enhanced options to block tracking.

I hate when people say only paid services can be #privacy respecting;

No? A lot of the essential privacy #software /services is free, open source, operated by a non profit.

Meanwhile, a lot of paid services STILL manage to be completely not privacy respecting.

Even if you pay for everything you use, you might be as better off as someone who didn't even pay for anything.

Yes there are valid cases where it's better to pay for a service, but don't undermine free, #libre, #nonprofit software-

sslaia,

@SomeGadgetGuy Sometimes I wonder whether there are companies who pre-loaded their hardware with switches or similar solution instead of software/malware. I guess, in the future the trust in OEM, supply chain and retailer will play important role.

Just a privacy reminder: if you're going to post a picture of your mail, make sure to blur or remove any barcodes on that mail. Every piece of USPS mail has a bar code with your full address on there. Zip Code + 4 extension (which is your neighborhood) + house # (which translates to your exact house).

I think the reason I can't decide what browser to use is that I can't decide what degree of privacy protection I want. I want to keep my data out of the hands of greedy tech companies, but I don't know if I care about fingerprinting enough to use something like Mullvad Browser, which has Tor-like effect caused by everyone using the same configuration.

I almost think I just want to stick to using plain Firefox with my own hardening or something like Arkenfox. I don't know. So many layers to what seems like a simple decision. Any thoughts?
