I believe many execs (& many of their enablers) are evil & diabolical, & they only care about their bottom line, esp. , , ...:

"Paul Graham wrote an essay in 2010 about how the best founders are naughty because they break the rules.

Then he has an interesting anecdote about Sam Altman...

Interesting lens through which to view why OpenAI keeps showing up in the news for doing obviously bad things."
-buccocapital

FeralRobots,
@FeralRobots@mastodon.social avatar

@KimPerales It's bizarre that they describe Altman as one of their 'most successful alumni' since just about everything he did before OpenAI failed on its merits. But he was able to leverage them to get progressively more-lucrative gigs, whether or not the companies actually did well, so I guess that makes him "successful" - as a grifter.

KimPerales,

@FeralRobots It's like calling TFG a successful businessman & not a conman & grifter.

Heaven for domestic abuse: a new spywaretool just up for grabs. It's like having Pegasus at home. What could possibly go wrong? Microsoft knows most families share their accounts or at least can easily log into eachothers accounts. They just choose to ignore it.

Good thing we have internet neutrality in the EU. I'm sure if we have that for power/energy.

ElBeeToots,
@ElBeeToots@mastodon.social avatar

@helma I concur. The ease with which large corporations like Google and Microsoft seem to be able to get licences for building new data centres and the energy that demands, makes me question the 'energy net neutrality', though 🤔

Glad I switched, fully, to a few months ago. I'm not a programmer or techie, and struggled with Linux in the past, but compared to a decade ago, the installation was really easy & it the user interface has improved dramatically.

For reference, using

@Matt_Noyes Good question! I think I just felt their installation guide and UI to be the most user-friendly for my personal level of comfort with tech.

Everyone is so up in arms about the 'recall' that's about to be baked into Windoze. Let me remind you that, during the pandemic, this thing was already widely rolled out in Teams and used by almost every company to spy on their remote employees, keystrokes, activity and all. All companies conveniently forgot to turn that off, until now. And no, I am not a tin-foil hat kinda guy, just a realist.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@peppe So you think it's better now that it's everyone?

peppe,
@peppe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast It's not better or worse; it has been there for a long time already. The divide between work and personal privacy is non-existent. What's different is the guts of MS to speak openly about it as a feature. But hey, call it AI and it's fine 🤣

Beware of Products in . If you have a choice, don't buy them! The App refuses to populate the WiFi Network to pair new devices if you do not deactivate 'Private WiFi Address' (MAC randomisation), 'Limit IP Address Tracking' & activate 'Location Services' and give access to 'Precise Location' on iPhone. . They even published a blog article about it, recommending to deactivate these vital protections, instead of fixing the App. 🤦

pee,
@pee@mastodon.online avatar

@danie10 I went through the websites & docs and it appears a monumental mission - either there are remarks of 'no longer supported' or you need to solder wires or this or that. Gees, if it is no longer supported, remove it from the list . And why such a mission to flash a Camera, while it could be easily done via SD Card. Or I am to new to all of this, to grasp it all at once.

danie10,
@danie10@mastodon.social avatar

@pee well if setup once then it works OK. I did buy a small USB-serial adaptor ages ago, and the wires coming out have those socket connectors on. I may have had to solder those pin things onto the Sonoff switch (can't remember as it was years ago) and then just connect the adaptor and flash. But I do also recall that things got easier as updates just required a file to be copied and reboot the device.
