My #filemanagement method using 🏷️ is so much more than just a fine solution for #photomanagement. You'll see that it actually addresses many aspects of working with local files in general:
If you want your fediverse posts to be seen by more people interested in their subjects, or you want to find and talk to more people interested in the subjects you post about, hashtags are your friend. You can add them after the body of your posts, or #hashtag words in the post itself.
The #AppleScript dictionary in #NeoFinder has been expanded to give you read and write access to the #Finder#Tags (aka Finder keywords) and the color labels of NeoFinder.
I love the design choice of Threads to hide the # symbol in #tags. It’s really nice to not see posts junked up continuously with a symbol that is mostly unnecessary.
They just color the text differently and it works great.
Now, I would assume there need to be accessibility considerations as well to make sure everyone will know what is a tag and what isn’t. But wow does the Don feel noisy by comparison (on this one factor).
Did you know that I developed a local file management method that includes #tags? https://karl-voit.at/managing-digital-photographs/ including a 45min talk which is worth watching just because I held it while being half ill. 😜
It comes with a set of (Python-)tools that provide great assistance for adding and managing tags, date-stamps, time-stamps, ...
I am still optimistic that the #Fediverse will eventually proof to be the best social network to connect special interest communities that currently disintegrate on the birdsite.
People just need to keep in mind that THEY have to replace the algorithm that used to drive the conversations, which means #BOOSTING generously and putting some effort into #tags for improving findability.
And don’t forget to sponsor your instance, which is a much better deal than having your attention monetised.
Then I found out that different programs have different places where they store this information.
Some use the image's embedded data (EXIF etc.).
👍 You can move the file around and the information doesn't get lost.
👎 Not all image/media types support this option
👎 The file itself gets modified, so also the timestamp
#streetart#tags#art#graffiti#paris#photo#photography
I love my #musiclibrary. @quodlibet is perfect for maintaining a large collection imho. I constantly tweak #tags, normalize filenames, adjust replay gain, etc. and listen to exactly the music I want. For example, sometimes I feel like #techno with #vocals, no problem. Sometimes I want #instrumental#electronic, done. 😜 I might make a video about my setup in the near future simply because I enjoy it so much. ☺️ In the meantime, what do you prefer, local #files or #streaming for #musiclistening?
So, it's well known by most here in the #fediverse that you can follow specific accounts from other instances, be they #mastodon or #calckey or the rest, the only caveat being that the instance must NOT be blocked by your home instance, which is fantastic and beautiful as #ActivityPub intended. The general advice is you don't need an account over on the other instance, and that certainly as held true in my limited experience.
The same, however can NOT be said for #tags , while you of course can follow a tag on, say, your own personal instance, it's not going to do you much good unless your instance is aware of a large enough number of accounts to populate a given #tag . I've got a few accounts around the verse now just to see the difference and it's HUGE.
So my #fediQ is, how have others tackled this? I LOVE the idea of a small tight knit local feed, but I don't love having tag feeds (or Calckey antennae) that feel like tumbleweed mode.
What’s the difference in #kbin between #tags & #hashtags? In the microblog tab, we can only add hashtags, which is simple enough. But when starting “threads” both options are there. There’s a field for tags & we still have the option of adding hashtags. Are they both equally searchable? If yes, should we search with or without the hash (“#”)? Why don’t the tags show up after posting?
One of my holy grail software quests is a community tagging (aka #folksonomy) plugin for #WordPress. The idea is that users/readers could add #tags to posts and/or images.
Can magazine tags be applied to all the content posted in that magazine?
As far as I can tell, magazine tags are mainly used when searching for magazines, and maybe for determining related magazines....
