And I thought I could document the development process here.
I've wanted to explore the idea of a non-hierarchical file manager for a long time and this is the result, Hyperplane.
The idea is that you organize files by tags (or categories or whatever name I end up with) instead of folders while still being able to access them from a traditional file manager.
You can test it now if you want, details in the README:
I love the design choice of Threads to hide the # symbol in #tags. It’s really nice to not see posts junked up continuously with a symbol that is mostly unnecessary.
They just color the text differently and it works great.
Now, I would assume there need to be accessibility considerations as well to make sure everyone will know what is a tag and what isn’t. But wow does the Don feel noisy by comparison (on this one factor).
I’ve been using Obsidian for a long time. I enjoy it and all of its extensions. However setting up the app and syncthing on all of my systems gets irritating....
Does trillium support #Tags? That’s a feature missing from most obsidian alternatives. To be honest, obsidian is the best note taking app as it seems for now, even if closed source sadly.
@QasimRashid
May I suggest that you continue to post to on Twitter but turn all comments off. Makes sure 50% of your tweets link back to here and suggest people join you here.
You can also do the same on multiple platforms using a Social Media Manager.
Use #tags more. #QasimRashid
If your official Web page is built on WordPress, then make sure you have the activity pub plugin installed.
Try other Fediverse apps like Pixelfed, where you can post more images.
Thanks for choosing Digital Democracy and Mastodon- Fediverse 🙏🙇♂️
OK how many #RiverWM users are out there on the #Fediverse , and would you care to share your reasons for loving it and possibly a screenshot and or dotfiles of your pride and joy ?
Please do boost for a wider reach and thanks in advance. 😘xoxo
@JustineSmithies I have #riverwm on my laptop (which is basically like a testing station) running #voidlinux. I am still trying to grab my head around the #tags feature. Even the rewrite in their wiki doesn't get through my denseness.
Lots of people have asked me about mastodon, and lots of people have said they've found it difficult. SO I wrote a post, because I believe we should think carefully about where and how we engage, and who benefits.
@Ruth_Mottram One thing that confused me for a long time is that #tags are only discoverable if the post itself is set to "public"-- so this message, for example, will not be findable with #, as I default to unlisted for replies.
Some questions to existing thi.ng users: What stops you from giving more public/private feedback, from sharing your experiences/excitements/criticisms, from sharing/writing/blogging/posting about your work/results with these libraries or from asking/answering questions from other users? Is there anything missing/wrong/offputting (infrastructure/resource/social)? What (else) should I be providing to help you and other users finding each other more (also to self-support)?
@mrshll Thank you! This is great feedback! Sorry about the vastness, but I honestly believe findability (among other things) would be much worse if these projects would all be individual repos (rather than monorepo).
Can I also ask: Did you ever try the tag/keyword search to narrow down the list of packages on the thi.ng website: https://thi.ng/#tags or with the OpenSearch API, e.g. https://thi.ng/?reactive
Another related thing I'm hoping to move to a more prominent URL is thi.ng/umbrella repo-wide code comment search. It's one of the example projects and currently still hosted here:
Did you know that I developed a local file management method that includes #tags? https://karl-voit.at/managing-digital-photographs/ including a 45min talk which is worth watching just because I held it while being half ill. 😜
It comes with a set of (Python-)tools that provide great assistance for adding and managing tags, date-stamps, time-stamps, ...
I am still optimistic that the #Fediverse will eventually proof to be the best social network to connect special interest communities that currently disintegrate on the birdsite.
People just need to keep in mind that THEY have to replace the algorithm that used to drive the conversations, which means #BOOSTING generously and putting some effort into #tags for improving findability.
And don’t forget to sponsor your instance, which is a much better deal than having your attention monetised.
As every android user I try tons of apps. Mostly Foss or at least privacy friendly apps. Thought of gathering app links and categorizing them in a telegram channel. Please have a look if you want and also join the chat for app suggestions. thanks.
Then I found out that different programs have different places where they store this information.
Some use the image's embedded data (EXIF etc.).
👍 You can move the file around and the information doesn't get lost.
👎 Not all image/media types support this option
👎 The file itself gets modified, so also the timestamp
@BeardedPip It's what links with Mastodon. If you go to a community's Microblog page, you'll see a bunch of posts that you can trace back to Mastodon. How it shows up in that community is because the community looks for certain #tags. If a Mastodon post has that #tag and the community is accepting it, then that post will show up in the Microblog for that community.
@Em0nM4stodon re: #tags, on the birdsite, I got into inline tagging to save characters. Even though Mastodon has a pretty generous character limit, there is still a limit. My question: should I be thinking of composing shorter toots to #tag at the bottom? Is there a place for inline #tags? (For example, my use of tags in this post)
@lhp After reading the last two sentences over and over, I guess I didn't understand how the tagging system works to begin with. Because it says "Compiling succeeds, so you toggle tag 2 and only your editor remains on the screen." Thats the opposite of what I understood toggling would do. So I am really clueless still about #tags
