Is there any way to just make the center feed wider on the web version of Mastodon? I kind of just want to use the offical version but the column wdth so narrow, it bothers me for some reason.
I just reinstalled @element on Android and set up a new @matrix account on it. The handy UI that divided rooms and people (DMs) into separate tabs is gone, replaced by a one column UI with a confusing mixture of rooms and people. I've been through all the settings, multiple times, and I can't figure out how to get my familiar UI back.
Immediate mode GUI in Unity is both one of the most awesome and tragic features in the engine. It’s near perfect my needs, which are basically “print debug information to the screen”. I weep for the day that I have to do any more than that though. #unity#imgui#ui
Oh gosh, you have to go disable this unified thingy… I know you want to look "modern" (whatever that is), and "integrate" with GNOME, but… I'm on KDE and I want my fancy window decorations I spent hours to choose. And the buttons where I'm used to, and… 🙄
Every time I want to implement a share icon I struggle with the decision if I should use something that's closer to Android or somethings that's closer to iOS/macOS.
I like the iOS/macOS version a bit more, but the Android version makes more sense I guess? But if you open the page/PWA on iOS it may seem out of place. 🤔
It's quite annoying that pretty much everything has a standard icon everyone understands but sharing has about 20 different icons.
Maybe I'm behind the times but I just came across https://www.tldraw.com/ and it looks amazing. If you're familiar with #Miro then it's basically an open source Miro clone.
In essence, an infinite digital whiteboard that you can add anything to.
According to the docs https://tldraw.dev/ you can "use the Tldraw React component to embed a fully featured and extendable whiteboard in your app." That's very cool.
What would a Bauhaus movement of #UI design be like?
A kind of engelbartian UI designing where an interfaces potential for cultural expression, it's versatility, expressivity is explored as opposed to problem resolution and pain-point removal
What would you define craft of interface as?
For me craft of interface would be a deep sensitivity towards a UI concept's potential for cultural expression, it's versatility, expressivity and creation of a new social practice
dear #UI people, and particularly people who make toolkits and widgets:
every number input field should be able to do basic arithmetic. i don't wanna pull out a calculator app that, and it's not like entering operators those fields could possibly mean anything else…
The first approach to "warehouses", channels, rooms. Personally, I don't like the solutions seen on #reddit, but people seem to like them. And yet, the user interface is for people, not for themselves. At least to a large extent.
While reddit's layout isn't fully polished (many subreddit-related modules and pages still use the old layout), I decided to use a drop-down menu that I don't like and redesign it a bit.
VoiceOver is a built-in macOS screen reader. It’s designed to help people with visual disabilities. For designers and developers it’s a tool that’s available for testing purposes, right out of the box.
If you use a Mac, work in creative/tech, and are unfamiliar with VoiceOver, I recommend giving it a spin. And when you do, keep these charts handy to help you move around. They’re invaluable.
I just got asked a very interesting question: let’s say you want to create a really stunning website and part of that is that you change the mouse cursor to various custom cursors, like arrows, pointers, crosses, buttons, whatever, when you move it around or hover over things.
How can you make sure the website is still accessible? Given the website is still fully keyboard-accessible, is there anything particular to consider – like fallbacks, user-specific settings, etc? 🤔
If I'm peeking into an #ActivityPub instance, show me its preferred UI form.
