🤯 #YouTube approved dozens of election disinformation ads ahead of the #India general election.
"We submitted 48 ads [...containing] content prohibited by YouTube’s #elections#misinformation policies, including false information around the election" like "changes to the voting age, instructions to vote by text message, and incitement to prevent certain groups from voting."
If #Mozilla wants to figure out monetization, they should explore the social #video space with #PeerTube One of the biggest challenges for individual instances to deal with is how to help their creators monetize vs. #YouTube but Mozilla is large enough that they could start building those connections with companies looking to promote their products.
But sure, go ahead and chase the #AI bandwagon with no monetization plan other than "AI is popular, let's do that."
I don't actually use TikTok or even the "sliding" function on youtube shorts, but I feel like my attention span has gotten much worse after they started getting popular. Even watching a 2 minute video feels dreadfully long, let alone a 10 or 20 minute video, so I end up watching a mostly short animation memes instead.
To post #SoundFiles on #Mastodon:
You do NOT have to make a #YouTube video, like in Twitter. You can post a #WAV or similar file right inside your toot. Insert it in as you would a photo, but search for the sound file on your device.
"Audio files can be any length, as long as the file size is under 40 MBs. The supported formats are MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC, M4A and 3GP." - @feditips
This isn't your typical #unboxing#video! A few days ago the first segments of the huge 39-m mirror of ESO's Very Large #Telescope arrived in #Chile, and our engineers checked that they hadn't suffered any damage.
Each segment was shipped in its own box containing sensors that tracked the temperature, humidity and shocks throughout the entire 10 000 km journey from Europe.
Hey guys, I am sitting on the #PeerTube (#Federated#YouTube) domain peertube.science - I want to gauge how much of an interest in this for me to set up. Is there anyone interested in a non commercial video service like this for the sciences? Humanities are welcome too. :)
This is a website with information about #DIYTV and #NewEllijayTelevision, a history of independent video from the #videofreex through to #youtube and suggestions on how to proceed in to the future.
It's still growing. There are almost certainly typos, formatting issues, dead links, awkward phrases, incorrect information, missing instructions, etc. Over the next week or three I'll be adding links, embedding videos, sharing code, and writing additional supplemental and instructional materials.
But the site is up and it works, and I have a page through which you can by a hand bound zine style copy of Community Media: A Handbook for Revolutions in DIY TV.
Bon Twitter c’est de la merde, mais la vraie question c’est : comment on call out des YouTubeurs de manière décentralisée ? 🤡 je vous laisse brainstormer, c’est pour une amie
#YouTube has blocked at least three videos that show viewers how to evade military service after it received a request from the Russian authorities, the investigative news outlet Agentstvo reported Monday.
Removing content related to human rights at the request of the Russian government and not because it violates Google’s content policies marks a “new trend,” Agentstvo said, citing an unnamed cybersecurity expert.
Adblockers and alternative frontend will only get you so far in this. It's literally just a matter of time until step it to yet another level. Want some real change? Stop giving them power. #Boycott these fuckers.
"Youtube has started to artificially slow down video load times if you use Firefox" -> https://archive.is/yAdak (link to avoid direct #reddit)
Bring down closed data silos like #YouTube. Empower #foss federated platforms like #peertube.
The Kids Online Safety Act just won't go away. If you live in the US, make sure your lawmaker is opposed to KOSA (and ask them to pass some real federal privacy laws while you're at it).
Gack, this story about Google apparently laying off YouTube Music employees who were trying to unionize? (Haven’t seen any reported/verified coverage yet, but watching.)
Long time YTM customer here. Initial feeling is that this is unacceptable and I guess I’m looking for streaming alternatives?
"Our main findings indicate a "funnelling effect": users.. ..are steered by the recommendation system towards a select group of video channels,
narrowing the range of views they are exposed to.
Additionally, we found a significant overrepresentation of right-wing voices in video recommendations. When viewing political videos.. ..19.3% of the first recommendations were for videos featuring politicians from the Finns Party."
Enjoying this #Reddit thread where they pontificate about how online video needs competition, but it costs too much to do it.
I've been running tilvids.com for almost four years now on mostly community donations. The problem isn't the cost, it's the fact that every creator thinks they're the next Mr. Beast and just one video away from being a millionaire, and viewers are complacent.
We could all easily collectively decide to change this at any time.
The manipulation of social media by some political groups became abundantly clear when, after a solid diet of physics and mathematics videos, with occasional ducks and movie trailers thrown in, just one accidental viewing of a Daily Telegraph video showing CCTV footage of a robbery (which on the face of it would appear apolitical, but which has been hi-jacked in the comments) has videos about Reform U.K. Ltd and an extremist German political party at the top of my #YouTube recommendations.
Anyone else notice that short videos are making their attention span worse?

Nick still wants to know who bought the Hung Bungs rights. Nemeth with animals. That guy that knows the history of BTE shows up again.
