Our first rental here in 2014 was $750/m.

Our second rental was $1020/m in 2016.

Our third rental was $1350 in 2019…

Units like ours now rent from $2,000-2,200/m.

Prices for rent have nearly TRIPLED in less than a decade. We’ve been priced out - it’s a large part of why we’re leaving.

Likewise they are often illinformed about the construct of the U.K and it’s 4 nations. Almost all domestic news in ‘U.K’. media is English centric. And they conflate England with Britain or UK.

@samueljohnson @leighms @kostikov waves from Scotland👋👋. Dunblane was our wake up call in 1996. One mass shooting was enough. Since then zero mass shootings and last year only one homicide by gun. Police don’t carry guns here either. You even need a license for an air gun in Scotland as our gun regulations are tighter than those in England and Wales.

@arnandegans @hardworkingamerican @randahl you don’t ban. No country bans. You regulate what types of guns and ammunition you can sell, how they are stored and tighten licensing. Removing these auto and semi automatic guns would be a start for you. You start one baby step at a time and get public buy-in. You won’t change culture overnight but educating your children now would pay dividends in the future.

If you know any women willing to discuss sexual topics, please ask them to contact me. In the years that I have been discussing sexuality, very few women ever comment. Many of them are defensive, abusive and sexually ignorant. So education is a challenge...

Just finished this, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the UK parliamentary system and UK democracy. It’s a very readable deep dive into what does and doesn’t work at the moment (only published last month), and although it’s depressing along the way, it points to some relatively straightforward fixes at the end. We can change this if we choose. Read it and tell your MP!

Last one was a rather dim wannabe councillor who assumed I was dimmer than him as he lied his ass off, esp about the EU and how it was preventing us from doing ‘stuff’. I said, fk me, is the EU mandating when to empty bins and fill potholes and the idiot replied Yes. 🤣🤣 By the time I was finished he needed resuscitated. I used to work as a lawyer in the EU Legal Service🤣

Today's tip from the local news regarding college: don't take out more than you'll make in a year.

What sort of bullshit is this? Even a state university these days costs more than that. How about taxing the fucking rich to pay for free state college and university for all? No means testing, no exceptions. Kid, you wanna go to college? Off you go debt free.

@HistoPol @somcak not just the EU. Free tuition for residents is also provided in Scotland, Norway and Iceland. Switzerland and Lichtenstein are less than USD900 a semester. Public transportation is often free or highly discounted.

European cities are full of classical nude statues of men and women. Children and adults walk by them daily and no one bats an eye, except for an occasional stop to admire the beauty. And they all seem fine.

In America it’s okay for children to see people, often their own classmates, being eviscerated, but gods forbid that they should see some art.

Tories don’t stand in NI. The significant majority of Tory votes are in England. Broadly speaking the other 3 nations of the U.K. are ignored because what England votes for is imposed upon us. Will England reject the Tories next year? Who knows.

@stopgopfox where do you think Hitler got his ideas from? He wasn’t just coming up with ideas out of thin air. It all stemmed from the early Jim Crow laws. To craft legal discrimination, the Third Reich studied the United States. America in the early 20th century was the leading racist jurisdiction in the world. Nazis were interested in, looked very closely at, and were ultimately influenced by American race law. And from that the Nuremberg Laws came into being.
