Too many people are waiting until they die to find paradise. And while life on earth is admittedly imperfect, if we're always waiting for "someday," we won't be aware of the glimpses of paradise we receive while we're still "down here."

Those who worry too much about fitting in don't focus on being who and what they truly are. When we are comfortable with ourselves, we don't look like a copy of someone else. And that's when insecure people call us "different."

These mountains remind me of benevolent sentinels, ringing the valley and watching over its meadows and its people. The voices of the Nez Perce, who used to live in this area, call out to the traveler today.

Dawn neither hurries nor dawdles, but awakens the day at just the right pace. First the mountains receive the sun's golden rays, then the surface of the water, and lastly, the trees and rocks in the shadows. Slow, calm, easy, peaceful.

It is good to be independent -- far, far better than being a follower or acolyte. But I believe we achieve our best results when we pool our resources and skills, as independent, strong individuals, and work together in friendship.

On a blustery day in autumn, you can stay inside and watch TV -- because it might rain -- or you can grab a jacket, put a hat on to keep your hair from blowing around, and take a walk along a winding, wending country road. You'll feel a lot better after a walk.

When we take time from our too busy days to do the little things that children consider big -- well then, we have not only moved forward on the path of wisdom, we have also accomplished something quite good. You can't create memories without doing good things.

Animals that have predators know by instinct that they can never relax. As they feed, at least one of them has an ear open for potential danger. I believe that we humans can learn a lot from nature, if we're willing to let it teach us.

It is late afternoon on a sultry summer day in the country. The wheat fields surrounding the farmhouse are golden, glowing under the soon to be setting sun, and from where you're sitting, on the porch, it feels good to just enjoy the silence and the peace.

It is surprising how many people hike to this lake, because it takes nine miles of steady uphill to get there. But they make the trek because the result is worth it: majestic mountains stand sentinel over an alpine lake, filled with cold, clear, perfect water. Stop, and stay awhile.

The thing about walking your own path in life is that you'll look, live, and be unusual, not at all the way you're "supposed" to be, and insecure people who watch too much TV will not hesitate to tell you so. That's when you know you're being yourself.

The beauty of dance is that it frees our mind and body to move gracefully through space, releasing them both from the confines of worry, fear, and anxiety. And in freeing ourselves from these elements, we encounter joy.

Country roads are not freeways, and you simply cannot drive quickly on them. And while this seems obvious, you'd be surprised at the people who try. Better, instead, to accept them for what they are and enjoy the leisurely way they take you through the landscape. More peaceful that way.

I have never hiked Angels Landing trail in Zion National Park, not because it isn't beautiful (I'm sure it is), but because it is crowded. The line of hikers working their way up looks like a looong line in the grocery store. Instead, I choose to hike trails that few people find because they're not promoted. But they're beautiful. And not crowded.

Gold. It is indeed precious. But this particular gold isn't a metal, and it isn't limited to the hands of a few. Indeed, the golden glow of a quiet, calm sunrise can't be held at all, but is freely given to all to enjoy.

High tide, low tide -- twice each day there are two of each, and the ocean and its coast reflect the constant change and movement of the moon's pull. There is always something to see at the sea, and it's worth taking time to see it.
