They are sisters, and when they are young, the difference between their ages and abilities seems great. But as they grow older, those differences disappear. What always remains, and grows, are the family ties that hold them together.

When we are waiting for something, someone, it is an ache, a drive deep inside our heart that simply can't be easily wished away. If it could, then it would be because you really haven't wanted it. Don't feel bad that you can't give up wanting what you're waiting for.

She was sipping her tea when she heard a knock at the kitchen door. If it were a friend, she had more cups and more tea. But if it were someone trying to sell her something -- a product or worse yet, an idea or way of thinking, she'd rather ignore the summons.

Life is an adventure much like traveling -- we often find ourselves in situations that are unfamiliar to us. But when we read and research, exploring words and thoughts of others who have walked before, we acquire information we need to keep discovering.

It is good to be independent -- far, far better than being a follower or acolyte. But I believe we achieve our best results when we pool our resources and skills, as independent, strong individuals, and work together in friendship.

What I love about the ocean is that it is two opposite things at the same time: it is timeless and unchanging, giving a sense of permanence in a world that changes too fast, and at the same time it is never static -- it is dynamic in its movement, never stuck in a rut.

I love sunset, especially sunset on the coast. The wet sand reflects the rocks in the sea, as well as the sky overhead. The horizon is layered with purple, rust, gold, cream, and the last of day's light glows outside of the encroaching shadows. It is quiet, peaceful, calm, reflective.

Some years it rains a lot here, others, not so much. About the most you can says definitively about the weather is that it is unpredictable. Like Nature, it doesn't take kindly to being boxed in, charted, manipulated, and controlled.

In autumn, the trees are joyous over their fall-themed wardrobe. Along a country road, it is as if they are waving at you, greeting your arrival, and inviting you to enjoy the journey along their road.

The people who care about the future of the planet are the ones who care about the future of their children. They are not interviewed by media, nor invited to attend exclusive climate conferences in their private jets. They are ordinary people, who just want to live their lives in peace.

It is surprising how many people hike to this lake, because it takes nine miles of steady uphill to get there. But they make the trek because the result is worth it: majestic mountains stand sentinel over an alpine lake, filled with cold, clear, perfect water. Stop, and stay awhile.

It's not a yellow brick road, and it doesn't lead to the Emerald City: it's better than that. It's a quiet, winding path through country fields, leading to and through a place of peace where you can stop and think awhile.

When we take time from our too busy days to do the little things that children consider big -- well then, we have not only moved forward on the path of wisdom, we have also accomplished something quite good. You can't create memories without doing good things.

At the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA, the sun appears to go down in layers. Down in the depths, shadows reign, while the last vestige of pulsating glow dances across the tops of the cliffs. It is quiet, calm, serene, and peaceful.

Animals that have predators know by instinct that they can never relax. As they feed, at least one of them has an ear open for potential danger. I believe that we humans can learn a lot from nature, if we're willing to let it teach us.

Dawn neither hurries nor dawdles, but awakens the day at just the right pace. First the mountains receive the sun's golden rays, then the surface of the water, and lastly, the trees and rocks in the shadows. Slow, calm, easy, peaceful.
