Genuinely quite surprised at the number of people coming out to say throwing a milkshake at Farage was 'assault' and must never happen to politicians. I absolutely agree politicians should not be subject to violence, but there is a long, proud history of throwing foodstuffs at people as a form of protest. Intended to humiliate and ridicule, not to injure. Pleased to see Mastodon mostly agrees.

Sounds like a bad joke joke but the EU governing council wants to once again legislate for it's 350 million citizens. According to @echo_pbreyer (EU parlamentarian) the legislation wants to force messengers to prevent users from sending images or videos unless they agree them to be scanned, AI-analyzed and potentially reported to police. They apparently want to bring it up for a council vote in two days and get it through parliament in June. A long overdue standard has now been published at W3C: "RDF Dataset Canonicalization". Essential for security related operations with RDF Datasets...

Note that the standard is published alongside 8 full implementations, which is great.

Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless."

Cover of Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy by Bertrand Russell. Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy is a book (1919 first edition) by philosopher Bertrand Russell, in which the author seeks to create an accessible introduction to various topics within the foundations of mathematics. According to the preface, the book is intended for those with only limited knowledge of mathematics and no prior experience with the mathematical logic it deals with. Accordingly, it is often used in introductory philosophy of mathematics courses at institutions of higher education.

The http://alt-text.org alt text library project needs a new leader, because I have brain cancer.

I would like to connect with the dev community, something I have never figured out, probably in part for neurodivergence reasons. I want to hand the project off to a team or a leader if anyone is willing to take it over.

As of 2 May, we will stop using X (formerly Twitter).

The reason is that X no longer matches SURF's public values such as humanity, autonomy and justice.

Also, the reach is declining on X and more and more academics and researchers are leaving the platform.

We have the know how to cut back considerably on methane releases; capping o & g wells, capturing waste methane for fuel, cutting back on food waste, etc. Why wouldn't we do these things? Save $$, create a healthier environment, there is no downside. https://www.ecowatch.com/landfills-methane-super-emitters-us.html

explaining complex ideas in the form of a video makes them highly accessible to audiences who are already motivated to engage with these ideas. that's great!

it also makes them extremely difficult to critically engage with, compared to most written media.

We can reach our full potential only if we use all our talent and diversity.

Gender equality is a core principle of the EU, but it is not a reality yet.

To make sure changes happen, the :
🟣 set rules on pay transparency,
🟣 adopted the “Women on boards” directive,
🟣 adopted the first ever legislation on combating gender violence,

Together, we are working tirelessly to achieve gender equality.
