Have y'all ever had someone act like you were hurting them somehow by just liking a food?

Any time I buy or make kimchi, my Mom says it's so gross and she doesn't want any and just on and on. I never offer it to her, or make group food with it, but for some reason she seems offended by it, and I don't know why.

cherylgk,

@RickiTarr Yes, sometimes when I tell people I am allergic or sensitive to sugar, soy and cow's milk and that I rely on stevia, almond milk, and goat's milk cheese and yogurt, they respond by saying they hate those foods. Well, don't eat them then, and be glad you don't have to.

cherylgk,

@TLB73 @RickiTarr That's like me realizing that I had been ADHD all my life when my daughter was diagnosed.

cherylgk,

@RickiTarr @RolloTreadway Discovering the existence of no-sugar-added Duke's mayonnaise was a godsend for me.

cherylgk,

@fredbrooker @RickiTarr @RolloTreadway Before I discovered sugar-free mayonnaise and mustard, I used to make my own. I made mayonnaise in the blender with canola or olive oil, egg, salt, a little dry mustard, a touch of cayenne, and lemon juice. It worked and tasted fine without sugar. I used to avoid vinegar, but when I found I could tolerate a little of it, I started buying the sugar-free versions of mayonnaise and mustard. The yellow and stoneground mustard are easily found in the store.

"I'm so angry at Biden over Isreal/Gaza that I'm going to help Trump destroy democracy, weaponize the Justice system, send millions to deportation camps, lower the taxes on the wealthy and shift the burden to the middle class, cut Social Security, track and prosecute women having abortions, pardon the people who violently attacked Capitol police, dismantle NATO, help Russia, AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT do even more harm to Palestinians" is a take--it's just a really awful take, IMO.

cherylgk,

@augieray Don't forget that Trump moved the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem while he was President and that he describes himself as the "best friend that Israel has ever had." His stances on Israel and Palestine have varied over time but are consistent with his tendency to care about how he appears and his political standing than about any people or issues.

The Tale of Two Gynecologists

This is a bit long, and I've talked about this a lot lately, but it's something I'm thinking about a lot in the wake of so much hatred of female Healthcare. When my female troubles got bad enough that I finally talked to my doctor about it, he referred me to a gynecologist. I had already had several ultrasounds and an MRI at this point, and she had put me on some oral contraceptives for several months, (which made sick to my stomach no matter what I did) and had just done another ultrasound. She greeted me with "Well, you're really messed up inside, Honey.", which already had me pretty stressed out. Then told me I would probably need surgery to figure out exactly what was going on. She then asked me if I wanted children, and I said No. I had taken my husband with me to the appointment for moral support, and she glanced over at him, and then talked to me for 5 minutes about how many women my age could still have children, and I could definitely consider it, and that they would do everything they could to make sure I could stay viable. They could freeze my eggs if I had to do a hysterectomy, just on and on. She probably asked me directly 4-5 if I was sure I didn't want kids. Finally, I said, "Ma'am, my husband got a vasectomy over a decade ago, we are absolutely sure we don't want kids." After hubs had found me crying on the toliet, because my period was late again, he went to his doctor and said, "Hey doctor, I'm thinking about a vasectomy." The doctor gave him a pamphlet to read, and made him an appointment. The whole thing was done in a few weeks.

Anyhow, she finally referred me to a gynecological surgeon, and I was not looking forward to dealing with this again, and was just generally terrified of having surgery for the first time. I met with this woman and she was so efficient and practical. It is the longest doctor appointment I've ever had, since this surgery would be exploratory, she went over every possibility of what could happen when she was inside. She did a thorough exam, she went over all the scans that I had, and explained why she thought this needed done. Then she said she would like to put in a Mirena IUD during surgery. She said, "You're in pain half the month, and there's no reason for you to have a period if you don't want to have kids. You'll have some erratic bleeding for six months, but by a year most women have a very light or no period at all, there's no reason for you to needlessly suffer if you don't end up needing a hysterectomy."

It's interesting to me still, that one doctor was so focused on what my body could do, and another so focused on how I felt. I came out of the first appointment feeling scared and confused, and the second feeling heard and cared for. Feeling valued as a person and not a baby maker made the surgery much easier to go through, and the Mirena has been great btw. Women don't have to needlessly suffer.

cherylgk,

@RickiTarr Thanks for sharing your story. My daughter was lucky enough to get he tubes tied without any argument or pressure from her doctor.

@flexghost "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movie songs, because the lyrics were written by my favorite Jewish, socialist lyricist, Yip Harburg, who also wrote the lyrics to"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime."

In Gaza all 12 universities & 356 schools have been destroyed or damaged, 5K students & 250 teachers have been killed, & 625K students haven't attended school in 6 months—but the politicians enabling this atrocity instead condemn Jewish & Muslim students for standing united for justice for Gaza.

These students are not antisemitic, & the anonymous provocateurs spewing antisemitic bile must be condemned. Do not let such bigots eclipse the noble cause for justice our young people are exemplifying.

@QasimRashid Even the suggestion that there is anything antisemitic about protesting to save Palestinian lives makes me angry.

We give such weird advice to kids. I remember being 12, and very shy, and people would tell me to just be myself. Now 30 years later, I'm 42, and still trying to figure that out.

cherylgk,

@RickiTarr When I was in sixth grade, my emotionally abusive teacher told me, in front of the whole class, that I had a superiority complex. The opposite was true, and I was also very shy and introverted. My satisfaction comes from knowing I overcame her abuse. I am still an introvert, but no longer shy, most of the time, at the age of 77.

Why is it OK for Black folk to like the Black Panthers, but white folk can't like the klan? Black supremacy is just as bad as white supremacy! Why the double standard?

We need to get over the idea that voting is a way for us to express our personal ideals. Voting is one move in a chess game that never ends—one each voter plays with a hundred million other voters. You can't win on the first move, and if you're in a bad board position it may take a long time to get out of it. (Narrator voice: we're in a bad board position, in many ways.)

If you don't play, though, or don't make alliances with other players, you're likely to lose. Losing now will be very bad.

cherylgk,

@ceracole @dgoldsmith I am terrible at chess, but I know that I have to vote for the best candidate who is actually on the ballot and that I will never find the perfect candidate.

What are your true opinions and thoughts on marriage?

Just for fun, this is a photo from my wedding day (ignore the reflection of my phone lol) I was all of 21.

cherylgk,

@RickiTarr Here is a photo of my late husband and me on our wedding day. We were married for 50 years before he died after a heart attack. I was very lucky to have met him and have him in my life for so long. Not everyone needs to be married, but I'm glad it worked so well for me.

cherylgk,

@bluecaller @RickiTarr We were married in a Rabbi's study with a total of eleven people present. We had our reception in my sister-in-law's apartment with champagne and a cake baked by my mother-in-law. I am so glad we were able to avoid the big fancy wedding.

cherylgk,

@McRocker @jimbush @RickiTarr My husband was not yet 21 when we married, so he had to get his mother 's written permission to get married. We married in a hurry because he was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam war, and my mother asked us to get married before we left to go the Washington, DC for his alternative service. But this hurried marriage lasted for 50 years .

@DrALJONES @ramzimo68 @rthornton777 I didn't find my Representative, Diana Degette (CO) on either list. I wonder if she abstained. I found it: a statement by her saying: “I voted present on H.Res. 894, led by Rep. Kustoff (R-TN), because of the misleading way it’s written – a way that only inflames existing tensions."
