This is why a free press is vital, so at least one can hold another outlet accountable.

Needless to add that there are major problems at the Washington Post and I’ve been talking about them for awhile.

They are going to need quite a rehabilitation to regain trust, if it’s possible.

  1. Washington Post CEO came from the Murdoch empire.

  2. He has been implicated in the (still not fully unraveled) UK "phone hacking" scandal that exemplified the sleaziness of the Murdoch empire.

  3. He told Post editor not to publish a story containing references to his alleged involvement.

  4. She published the story.

  5. She's gone.

We are going to end up with half a million low-orbit comsats turning the night sky into a streaky blur because everyone uses Starlink or similar for broadband because the telcos have allowed their terrestrial cable infrastructure to decay, in the interests of maximizing profit. And of course the satellite broadband will be slow and buggy because overloaded.

My Mum is very stressed at the moment so I'm taking her for a roast on Sunday.

FYI, if you support the #AudioPorn project on Patreon, some of that £ covers my time to produce/edit/record/commission/write the smut that you can hear FOR FREE on my site. Which also means a tiny bit of your £ will go towards buying my Mum a mushroom wellington and isn't that wholesome.

The same is true of all porn you pay for: #PayForYourPorn, we sometimes use it to treat our mums.

Hiring Karolina is the best thing you can do for your product and/or design today.

The care and attention she brings to her work will surpass your expectations and you likely haven’t seen anything like it before.

I have collaborated with her on JSConf- and CSSConf* AU and EU and everything has been better for her contributions.

tl;dr: I couldn’t speak more highly of Karolina. If the time zone situation is awkward for you, making it work will be worth it.

I'm still not ready to laugh at someone going to jail, but this gentleman never having had a driver's license, ever, is wild.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FiIY5B4a_-k

He seems to have significant difficulty navigating legal forms and executive function, and making judgement calls. I'm not going to speculate on why that might be in his case, but I've helped people in similar situations do the seemingly simple things needed to keep them out of jail.

His defender should have known about the bench warrant.

The company says the bugs were exploited by security researchers at the end of May.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

Three Copilot+ Recall questions that keep coming up.

Q. Can you alter the Recall history?

A. Yes. You can change the OCR database and change the screenshots as the logged in user or as software running as the local user. There is no audit log of changes.

Q. Are they snapshots, as Microsoft says, or screenshots?

A. They are just screenshots, jpegs.

Q. What is to stop apps on your machine accessing your Recall covertly?
A. Nothing. There is no audit log of access.

If anybody is wondering what Microsoft's reaction to any of the Copilot+ Recall concerns are, they're continuing to decline comment to every media outlet.

I've seen comments MS staff have been given for enterprise customers, which are nonsense handwaving.

Product ships live on devices from Dell, Lenovo etc this month. https://x.com/zacbowden/status/1798221879741931847
